    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • It takes 15 minutes to prepare: You only have to spend 15 minutes of hands-on time to make these banana pudding treats.
    • It's budget-friendly: This is not an expensive dessert to make. This is one of my favorites because it's tasty, fun, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to grab the ingredients.
    • It's easy to customize: I love recipes that give you freedom to make tweaks. This is no exception! Customize it however you like to fit the flavors that you enjoy the best.

    Ingredients

The 6 ingredients that I use to make these banana Rice Krispie treats are listed below. It's similar to traditional treats with extras to give it that banana pudding flavor.

Ingredients to make banana rice krispie treats in bowls on the table with labels to identify each one.
    • Marshmallows: Mini marshmallows are my first choice because they melt the easiest and quickest. Regular-sized ones are great in a pinch, but they take a little more time to melt completely and evenly.
    • Rice Krispies: Any crispy rice cereal, including the Rice Krispies brand, will work fine in this recipe. Just ensure that you grab the right size box!
    • Banana pudding mix: You won't need the milk because you won't be making pudding with the mix. It goes with the marshmallow to give the treats a banana flavor. Grab an extra box of pudding at the store to make these banana pudding brownies next!
    • White chocolate chips: I melt the white chocolate and drizzle it on top right before letting it set. Add as much or as little as you like. I find it brings richness that complements the banana pudding with marshmallows.
    • Nilla wafers: Make sure you add these immediately after the white chocolate so they stick to the cereal mixture. I space them enough so you get one on each square.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Butterscotch: Try making this recipe with melted butterscotch chips instead of white chocolate chips for a slightly different yet sweet and buttery flavor.
    • Add nuts: Sprinkle chopped nuts like peanuts or pecans on top for extra texture and crunch.
    • Add chocolate: Swap out half of the white chocolate chips with semi sweet chocolate!

How to Make Banana Rice Krispie Treats

Here are the instructions needed to make these banana-flavored Rice Krispie Treats. It's just like the classic recipe, except with banana pudding mix!

Marshmallows and butter melted in a saucepan.

Step 1: Melt the butter and marshmallows. Heat the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. When it's melted, stir in the marshmallows, vanilla extract and keep them over the heat until the mixture is smooth.

Banana pudding mix and rice krispies added into the saucepan.

Step 2: Add pudding mix and cereal. Fold in the banana pudding mix and Rice Krispies. Ensure they are fully coated.

    Mixture pressed into a pan.

Step 3: Press the mixture into the pan. Transfer the mixture to the 9x13 pan and gently press it down evenly.

White chocolate on top and nilla wafers added.

Step 4: Add toppings. Drizzle melted white chocolate on top and add the Nilla wafers.

Rice krispie cut into pieces on a parchment paper.

Step 5: Cool and serve. Allow the treats to fully cool on the counter for an hour or half an hour in the refrigerator. Slice it into squares and enjoy!

    Recipe Tips

    • Melt don't cook: Keep the pot over the heat just until the marshmallows are melted, and then remove it.
    • Fold in the white chocolate chips: You may add the white chocolate when you add the cereal, so you get little pockets of white chocolate on each bite instead of melting and drizzling it on top.
    • Use low heat for the marshmallows: Don't let the heat get too high, or you will scorch the marshmallows.
    • Storing: Store them either on the counter or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Keep them at room temperature for a chewier texture.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Prepare a rich coffee milkshake to sip on with a banana Rice Krispie treat.
    • Get creative with the presentation and use other cute treats like pretzel flowers!

    Recipe FAQs

Why are my banana Rice Krispie treats so dense?

Pack the treats into the pan loosely to preserve their texture. Packing them too tightly will result in the finished dessert being dense and tough.

Can I add some Nilla wafers to the cereal mixture?

Of course! Crush a few wafers and fold them into the marshmallow and cereal mixture.

    Can I make them bite-sized?

Yup! Use a mini muffin tin to make smaller treats or cut them mini-sized. This is fun for parties!
