Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It consists of 4 ingredients: This makes it so incredibly easy to make and shop for. I often have bananas and vanilla in my kitchen already.
- It’s a no-churn recipe: All you need is an electric mixer to make this easy banana dessert recipe. You can skip the eggs and fancy machine—they aren’t needed to make this dessert!
- It’s budget-friendly: This is a perfectly affordable recipe that anyone can make. It’s a wonderful dessert to make on a tight budget.
Ingredients
You need the 4 main ingredients plus the mix-ins to make this delicious homemade banana-flavored ice cream. I use very common items so it won’t take any effort to get them!

- Heavy cream: This is one of the most important ingredients needed to make this homemade banana ice cream without a machine.
- Vanilla extract: I like to use vanilla to enhance the banana while adding a hint of sweet vanilla. You may use imitation in a pinch, but pure is always better.
- Sweetened condensed milk: This acts as a sweetener but also helps the ice cream achieve a creamy consistency that preserves after it freezes.
- Bananas: I add the bananas whole and let them mix up into the ice cream base. You get small pieces of banana and blended bananas for varying textures.
- Mix-ins: I add peanuts, chocolate chips, and sprinkles as mix-ins for this homemade banana nut ice cream recipe. They are optional, but the salty and crunchy nuts add texture, the chocolate adds richness, and the sprinkles are fun!
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Peanut butter: Mix in a couple of scoops of peanut butter for a peanut butter and banana sandwich version.
- Caramel: Swirl in caramel for a sweet and salty twist.
- Nutella: Add a swirl of Nutella for decadence. The warm hazelnut and chocolate complement the banana.
How to Make Banana Ice Cream at Home
This is the best banana ice cream recipe to make if you want a simple dessert. I included mix-ins but they’re totally optional.

Step 1: Beat the cream and vanilla. Pour the heavy cream and vanilla extract into a large mixing bowl. Then, use an electric mixer to beat the cream until it’s fluffy and has stiff peaks.

Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients. Add the bananas, peanuts, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. Use the mixer to mix everything into the whipped cream until it’s fully combined.

Step 3: Freeze it. Sprinkle more peanuts, chocolate chips, and sprinkles on top for a fun presentation. Cover it tightly and pop it in the freezer for a minimum of 6 hours.

Step 4: Serve. When it’s firm, scoop and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Storage directions: Store your ice cream in the freezer tightly covered for up to 2 months.
- Don’t use unripe bananas: Unripe bananas with a green peel are way less sweet and harder to mash. Ensure your bananas have yellow peels and a few brown spots for peak ripeness and sweetness!
- Use banana chunks: For texture, leave some or all of the bananas in chunks to get even more bananas in each bite.
- Try frozen bananas: Make this banana chip ice cream with frozen bananas. It’s a great hack when you don’t have any fresh bananas.

Recipe FAQs
When the ice cream firms up, it’s normal for it to be a little hard to scoop. Leave it at room temperature for about 5 minutes to slightly soften. This will make it much easier to scoop!
If the ice cream isn’t covered tightly enough, this can allow ice crystals to form. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap and allow it to touch the surface of the ice cream to prevent freezer burn. Also, don’t keep your ice cream past 2 months because that will cause it as well.
Any airtight plastic container with a lid is a great alternative to a loaf pan in plastic wrap. It will keep your ice cream well preserved.
