Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • Limited Ingredients: This cocktail requires only four ingredients.
    • Easy: It's far easier to achieve its layered look than you might think.
    • Festive: The red, white, and blue colors are perfect for summer.
    • Refreshing: This cocktail tastes like a delicious blend of cherry lemonade and vodka.

    Ingredients

Just a few ingredients and some ice are all it takes to make this colorful, delicious cocktail.

Ingredients for Bomb Pop Cocktail on a table.
    • Grenadine: Adds a sweet, tart, fruity pomegranate flavor. Homemade grenadine is simply pomegranate juice and sugar, simmered until thickened.
    • Small Ice Cubes: Pebble ice or crushed ice will help create layered look.
    • Lemonade: Adds a wonderfully sour lemon flavor.
    • Blue Food-Safe Coloring Liquid: Adds beautiful bright blue color.

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

    Variations

    • Grenadine: Pomegranate juice, combined with simple syrup or raspberry syrup, is a great substitute for grenadine, with raspberry syrup giving the drink a vibrant red color and berry kick.
    • Lemonade: Use lemon-lime soda or sparkling lemonade for some fizz, or try fresh lemon juice with a little sugar for a fresher flavor.
    • Vodka: Use white rum, gin, blanco tequila for different flavor, or coconut water for a mocktail.

    Instructions

All you have to do to make this cocktail is pour!

    Grenadine being poured into glass.

Slowly pour grenadine into your glass to prevent much splashing. Use enough to fill to a ½ an inch or at least 1 centimeter in height.

Ice added with spoon on top of grenadine.

Carefully add ice into the glass using a spoon.

Lemonade and vodka in measuring cup being poured on top of spoon.

Mix lemonade and 1 ½-ounces of vodka into a spouted measuring cup and slowly pour on to the back of a spoon, into the glass. Leave at least 1 inch of space from the top.

Vodka and food coloring in measuring cup being poured over spoon.

In the same spouted measuring cup, add the remaining 1 ½-ounce vodka and 1-2 drops of blue coloring and repeat, pouring on the back of the spoon. Garnish with a bomb pop popsicle if desired.

    Recipe Tips

    • You may need to use more grenadine, depending on the circumference of your glass. You want a nice, solid layer of red at the bottom.
    • Chill ingredients first so layers last as long as possible.
    • Leave about an inch of space at the top of your glass when filling it with crushed ice or small ice cubes. The ice will rise as you add the liquid.
    • Pour liquids slowly on to the back of a spoon held right above the drink to ensure clean looking layers.
    • This recipe yields one cocktail and should be served immediately and not stored. The ice will melt and dilute the drink, and trying to remove the ice will mix the layers.
