Sugar Cookie Fudge is easy, rich and creamy! Full of sugar cookie flavor, decorated in bright sparkles or sprinkles, perfect as a dessert or edible gift!
I just can't seem to get enough of fudge, of any and every kind, especially over the holidays. I love giving it as an edible gift over the holidays and I love eating it even more!
Sometimes we cut them into squares and sometimes we cut the fudge on an angle so the pieces come out "crooked" like my son used to say when he was younger.
We have also used silicone molds to control the size, be a little fancier and are always so happy with the results. The problem is the extra time it takes and my husband believes that no one minds the square shape or even cares. Unfortunately, they disappear so fast I believe he is correct.
As far as sugar cookies go, I can't remember not making a batch or two of them, every Christmas. When I was young I have distinct memories of making sugar cookies with my grandmother and her allowing me to do all of the decorating of course.
I adored both her and my grandfather, I wrote them letters regularly and I never knew it but my grandparents kept them ALL. It was so odd finding them all as filed as we cleaned out their home after they had both passed.
I tear up now just thinking about it. They were such amazing people and honestly, my favorite people ever.
What Is White Chocolate?
Before we talk about white chocolate, let's look at what chocolate really is. Well, it all starts with cocoa beans. The type and taste of chocolate is then determined by the treatment of the beans and the types and amounts of additives used.
White chocolate is, however, a chocolate confection made up of cocoa butter (not cocoa beans), sugar, and milk solids It may contain other sweeteners and flavoring like vanilla. It is characterized by it's pale ivory color and high melting point. For more information on white chocolate have a look here.
What forms does White Chocolate come in?
White chocolate can come in chip or square or melts (melts are small disks that have an easy melting point but similar to the chips). If a recipe calls for chips and all you have is baking squares (or vice versa) you have a couple of options.
If you have a kitchen scale you can weigh out your replacement in ounces and if you don't have a scale, then just know that 1 ¼ cups of chips are the rough equivalent to an 10 - 1 oz bars of baking chocolate.
White chocolate chips tend to be thick and clumpy due to stabilizers added that make them resistant to melting. White chocolate baking bars melt easier than the chips, which is great for making candy or a chocolate sauce.
If all you have are chips and they're not melting well, just add a tablespoon or two of butter or shortening to the mix and the chocolate should turn into a thin, smooth consistency.
It is also important to talk about the type of chips used. Cheaper brands will most likely have more fillers and and make them more resistant to melting. Check the ingredients and if there is vegetable oil in the chips, they will most likely need to add the butter or shortening to achieve the desired results.
Substitutes for White Chocolate
If you have a recipe that calls for white chocolate and you don't have any on hand, check out the substitutions for it listed down below. Please keep in mind that these substitutions may alter the flavor and color of the chocolate. Substitute the exact same amount of whichever type of chocolate you desire.
Milk chocolate is a sweet chocolate that you can either snack on or use in recipes, especially cookie recipes. It contains at about 10% cocoa with added sugar, milk and cocoa butter.
White Chocolate Almond Bark (Confectionery Coating) comes in a bunch of forms from chips to blocks to squares. Despite it's name, it doesn't contain nuts and is valued for it's texture, taste, and melting ease. If you want substitute white chocolate for white chocolate almond bark, use a 1:1 ratio of chocolate to almond bark. You're most likely going to have to add 1 tablespoon butter or shortening as well since it doesn't contain any cocoa butter or chocolate liquor.
Unsweetened chocolate Made solely of cocoa butter and cocoa solids, the flavor of this chocolate isn’t usually fit for eating on its own as it is quite bitter, so it's only used in baking. It's great in cake, cookie or brownie recipes.
Dark chocolate is made up of at least 35% of cocoa, a small amount of sugar and little to no milk. Since it's sweeter than unsweetened chocolate and has less sugar, it's quite popular with those that want a sweet treat but are health conscious.
Bittersweet chocolate is a dark, sweetened chocolate that also contains at least 35% cocoa. It is mostly used in baking and is great for recipes that call for a strong chocolate flavor.
Semi-sweet chocolate is also made with at least 35% cocoa and is the most versatile form of chocolate. It's ideal for baking and eating and can be found in many chocolate chip cookie recipes. It also has cocoa butter and sugar added.

People always talk about how raw flour is dangerous and can make you sick from E coli.
How to make raw flour or Cookie Mix safe to eat
I have been doing it for a long time and have never gotten sick. My grandparents who lived on a farm served us cookie dough with raw flour and farm fresh eggs and never got sick. I might just be lucky.
That being said I want to give you some information on the risk you take consuming raw flour and what you can easily do to avoid getting sick.
To toast the cookie mix in the oven, spread it on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. With the microwave you just heat for 1 minute and 15 seconds on high, stirring every 15 seconds, and you're good to go!
I microwaved the cookie mix in a microwave safe bowl in 15 second intervals five times and it worked beautifully.
Regardless of your chosen method, the flour or cookie mix must reach a temperature 0f 165 degrees to be deemed safe to eat and it is just that simple to ensure it's safety. I have never done this myself but that doesn't mean you won't want to!
If you would like further information on E. coli linked to raw flour take a look here.
For more info on baking the bacteria away look here.
For more information on microwaving away the bacteria look here.
It is generally recommended that you DO NOT ingest or even just taste anything that contains raw flour. Make sure it has been cooked before eating it. This includes flour being used as a thickening agent.
For more information about the FDA recommendations, check this link out.
You have to look at fudge like a blank canvas in a way. Take this Sugar Cookie Fudge for example, that is totally white, before you add your sprinkles or sparkles. Remember that when you are in the aisle at your local market deciding which colors to buy.
I always consider the other desserts I will be serving with it and which holiday or occasion the dessert is for. Also, with this recipe, you must only stir the fudge a few times after you dump your decorations in. The fudge mixture is hot and you don't want the decorations to possibly melt!
Not only do we make this Sugar Cookie Fudge but we also enjoy a few other varieties as well!

Karin and Ken says
You most definitely can. The only reason I recommend a square pan is so you get even pieces or squares perfect for serving. I hope you love this recipe as much as we all do. Enjoy! Karin

just asking, but how to fix this if someone is a diabetic, and taste as good
Karin and Ken says
I have spoken to almost every foodie I know to try and give you an obvious option and unfortunately we are unable to do it exactly. My 84 year old uncle who is diabetic said to tell you “kid just forget about it”. That being said you might want to try this and see how it turns out. You never know if you don’t try! There are several sugar free fudges online. Just google it, choose one and get all of your ingredients to make it. As for the sugar cookie mix have a look at this link https://www.crazyforcrust.com/homemade-sugar-cookie-mix/ and substitute the sugar for your favorite sugar substitute and instead of all purpose flour try amaranth, buckwheat or ragi and I believe it is definitely worth a try. Just add 1 1/2 cups of the mix to the sugar free fudge mixture. Just so you know when I read this to my uncle he said “hmmm will you make it for me?” and he knows I will. I hope you give it a try too! Regardless take care and all the best. Karin

You say only 2 1/2 cups of white chocolate chips which is about 20 oz but in one of your comments you say to use 24 oz of white chocolate bark. Is your recipe right with only one bag of chips? Thanks
Karin and Ken says
Ok. I just made a batch, just because I love this fudge, and I just wanted to be sure. Each bag of white chocolate chips that I use are 8 ounces or 225 grams each and give you about 1 1/4 cups of chocolate chips per bag. This recipe requires 2 bags or 2 1/2 cups of white chocolate chips. I am updating the recipe to reflect that the recipe will require 20 ounces of almond bark. An equal amount! Thank you, by the way! I am eating a piece right now and enjoying every bite! Hope you still give it a try! All the best and than you again! Karin

What would be the best sugar cookie mix substitute to use in the uk?
Karin and Ken says
No need to substitute. You have a couple options. You can purchase Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Cookie Mix from Amazon which is the exact brand I used in this recipe and I do not make money for saying that. Your other option is to make it yourself and my friend Dorothy makes a great one which you can find here. Hope that helps! This fudge is terrific and worth the effort! Take care and all the best. Can I use white almond bark instead of white chocolate chips?
Karin and Ken says
You bet. I have used the 24 oz package from Walmart if that is an option for you, even though you only need 20 ounces. Regardless all chocolate will work, just substitute equal amounts. If fudge mixture needs to smoothed out add a tablespoon or two of butter or shortening. You will not be disappointed! All the best. Karin

This looks delicious and simple, my favorite kind of recipe. Would this recipe also work with any kind of chocolate? Dark, milk?
Karin and Ken says
I apologize for the delay in my response. My close friend passed away from cancer and I forgot I had a blog. You most definitely can. I have included a paragraph above and I thank you for asking the question. My head hasn't been in the game lately and I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my post. That being said you can use other chocolates and while heating add a tablespoon of butter or two to smooth the chocolate mixture if necessary. Some chocolates have fillers in them and will require it. Regardless, I hope you try this fudge I think it is terrific! Again I apologize for your wait. Take care and all the best. Karin

Looks very good and different but what size cookie mix package do you use?
Karin and Ken says
I would try and find the smallest size available because this recipe only requires 1 1/2 cups. I also make this recipe regularly enough that I keep the leftover cookie mix for another batch! This fudge is a personal favorite! I hope you give it a try! All the best. Karin

Looks amazing. What would’ve the closest thing to ‘Sugar cookie mix’ in Australia. (I’ve never heard of it. Thanks
Karin and Ken says
Betty Crocker has a box of sugar cookie mix available in Australia called Rainbow Cookie Mix. This mix includes chocolate buttons which might not be too difficult to separate from the sugar cookie mix itself. It is a red box and shouldn’t be too difficult to find based on what I have been told. Please let me know if you are able to find it and what you think of the recipe. I would love to hear! Take care and all the best. Karin

How do i store the fudge? Foes it need refrigeration?
Karin and Ken says
This fudge will last about 2 weeks at room temperature in an air tight container and about a month if refrigerated. You can also individually wrap each fudge piece, place it in an air tight container and freeze it for 3 months. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I apologize for not including that information in the instructions! Take care and all the best. Karin

Hi ate you able to put up the sugar cookie mix link recipe? Have no idea how to make that but this fudge sounds yum

The sugar cookie mix can be found in the baking aisle of your local market. Sugar cookie mix is made by several different brands and is used to make regular old sugar cookies! Hope this helps and this fudge is terrific! I think definitely worth a try! Please let me know which country you are in and I will help you find it if you need me to! All the best. Karin
