Why You’ll Love This Marshmallow Fluff Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

    • It only takes 10 minutes to prepare: This is a quick and easy treat with no baking required that you can whip up in around 10 minutes.
    • The ingredients are affordable: It’s a budget-friendly recipe that tastes better than store-bought!
    • It’s easy to customize: Feel free to get creative with mix-ins and flavors to make this recipe for Rice Krispie treats with fluff your own.

    Ingredients

The ingredients used in this Rice Krispie treat recipe mirror the classic version with only one difference - marshmallow cream instead of marshmallows! It keeps the same nostalgic flavor and texture, but makes the process quicker.

Ingredients for rice krispie treats with marshmallow cream arranged on a marble surface.
    • Rice Krispies cereal: I use plain Rice Krispies brand cereal for this recipe. You can use any crispy rice cereal you want, just ensure you have enough to measure out 10 cups.
    • Marshmallow cream: Classic Marshmallow Fluff is my go-to, but you can use any brand of marshmallow cream for this recipe.
    • Butter: The butter adds a subtle salty flavor and helps the marshmallow coat the cereal and set properly.
    • Vanilla extract: I like to add a little vanilla for flavor and to bring out the natural sweetness of the marshmallow. It’s definitely a key ingredient!

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Chocolate peanut butter: Fold in chocolate and peanut butter chips with the cereal and melted marshmallow to create a rich and salty version.
    • Caramel coconut: Mix shredded coconut into the Rice Krispie treats and drizzle them with caramel for a sweet and tropical twist.
    • Cinnamon pecan: Stir in ground cinnamon and chopped pecans for a warm spiced flavor and crunchy texture.

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff

Here are the instructions on how to make this Rice Krispie treats recipe with marshmallow cream. Get a 9x13” pan ready by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray or lining it with parchment so it’s easy to lift the marshmallow treats out.

Butter and marshmallow creame melting together in a saucepan.

Step 1: Melt the butter and marshmallow. Add your butter to a large saucepan over low heat and allow it to fully melt. Then, stir in the marshmallow cream. Allow the butter and marshmallow to combine and fully melt until they are perfectly smooth.

Rice krispies cereal folded into melted butter and marshmallow cream mixture in a saucepan.

Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients. Take the pan off the heat and stir in the vanilla and salt first. Then, fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until it’s evenly coated in the sweet and sticky marshmallow mixture.

Rice krispies treat mixture pressed into blue rectangular baking dish.

Step 3: Transfer to the pan. Carefully pour the warm cereal treat mixture into the greased 9x13” pan. Gently press it down evenly either with a spatula or your hands (as long as they’re clean)!

Rice krispie treats cut into squares after removing from a baking pan.

Step 4: Cool and slice. This is the hardest part - allowing it to cool for 30 minutes before you slice it into squares. This recipe should make about 24 pieces to enjoy!

    Recipe Tips

    • Storage directions: Store leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
    • Grease your tools: Spray your tools with nonstick cooking spray to keep the marshmallow from sticking to them. You can even spray your hands as well.
    • Add extras when still warm: If you want to add sprinkles on top, do so before the marshmallow sets to prevent them from falling off.

    • You can’t go wrong with a cold glass of milk with this dessert. Try these hot chocolate truffles if you prefer a warm beverage.
    • A scoop of ice cream makes a perfect pairing, too. Great examples to try are chocolate crunch ice cream and M&M ice cream.

    Recipe FAQs

    Can I refrigerate these treats?

You can, but they will keep their texture better at room temperature. Refrigeration won’t increase their shelf life.

    Can I freeze the leftovers?

I don’t recommend it. When they thaw, the texture isn’t quite the same. The cereal loses a lot of its crispiness.

    Can I use the microwave?

If you prefer, sure! Add the butter and marshmallow to a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in 30-second intervals until smooth.
