Ingredients
The most important components of this recipe are listed below. I used my favorite types of bread, cheese, etc, but you can shake things up as well.c.

- Bread: My go-to is sourdough bread because it crisps very well and is a little larger than your typical sandwich bread. Feel free to try this turkey sandwich melt recipe with multigrain bread or any type you prefer.
- Cheese: I chose two varieties: Swiss and provolone. They melt exceptionally well and pair perfectly with the sliced turkey. Make your turkey melts with any kind of cheese you want. Cheddar and pepper jack work well, too.
- Turkey: I typically go with deli turkey, but you can absolutely use leftover turkey as well. This recipe is perfect for Thanksgiving leftovers!
- Toppings: When I make a turkey melt, I top it with bacon, tomato, and mayonnaise. Of course, you can add sliced onion, yellow mustard, or anything else you like on your sandwich. Just remember, it will be warm, so be careful about what produce you choose.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Add avocado: Add mashed or sliced avocado to add more creaminess to your turkey sandwich melt.
- Use chicken: Try this recipe with deli-sliced chicken instead of turkey.
- Mediterranean-style: Add some feta and olives for a Mediterranean twist.
How to Make a Turkey Melt
Here are the steps needed to make a turkey bacon melt. It's like making a grilled cheese, except with more toppings!

Step 1: Butter the bread. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.

Step 2: Add one slice to the skillet. Next, heat your skillet over medium heat and place on slice into it, butter side down.

Step 3: Top with ingredients. Then, layer with mayo, cheese, turkey, tomato, bacon, and the second slice of bread on top, with the butter side facing up.

Step 4: Once the bottom slice is golden brown, carefully flip the sandwich and brown the other side. Remove your turkey melt from the pan and slice it in half. Enjoy it with some steak fries for a complete meal!
Recipe Tips
- Storage and reheating directions: Store your sandwich tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days once it has cooled. You may reheat the sandwich in the microwave for 50 seconds or in a skillet over low heat.
- Make it in the air fryer: Assemble your sandwich and place it in the air fryer. Cook it at 370°F for 5-7 minutes, flipping it halfway through.
- Watch the heat when toasting: Be careful that the heat doesn't get too high, or the outside of the sandwich will burn.

Recipe FAQs
You can, but I wouldn't cook it until you're ready to serve it. It will have the best flavor and texture when toasted fresh.
Turkey melts do not freeze and thaw well. The bread becomes very soggy.

Notes
- This is not a recipe that belongs in the freezer. These turkey melts are best made fresh!
- You may prepare it ahead and keep it in the fridge for a couple of hours, but I wouldn't add butter or toast it until you're ready to eat.
- Try crisping your turkey melt in the air fryer instead of a skillet.
