Why You'll Love This Recipe
- It's ready fast: This is a quick and easy sandwich that doesn't need any cooking or a lot of prep. It's perfect when you're short on time.
- It's budget-friendly: It's a cheap recipe, too. I often have most of the ingredients for a club sandwich on hand.
- It's customizable: You can make this turkey club your own, too! Swap, add, or omit toppings to fit your preferences.
Ingredients
All the essential components of this turkey club sandwich recipe are listed below. This includes the meat, cheese, and homemade avocado mayonnaise!

- Avocado: You'll want your avocados to be ripe. When they are brown and soft but not mushy, they're ready to use. Hard avocados need a couple of days to ripen for a soft and creamy texture.
- Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice is always better, but if you only have bottled, that will work fine in a pinch. This adds acidity and brightness to the avocado mayo.
- White bread: I love soft white bread. Use any kind that you like, as long as it's hearty. I toast it for texture!
- Bacon: Crispy bacon adds savory flavor and crunchy texture. Fry it fresh or use leftover bacon if you have it.
- Turkey: Deli-sliced turkey is my go-to. However, this turkey sandwich recipe is a great way to utilize leftover turkey breast, too.
- Cheese: I prefer sliced cheddar cheese, but you can use any variety. Provolone, pepper jack, and Swiss would be awesome substitutes.
- Toppings: I keep it simple with just lettuce and tomato. Feel free to add spinach, spicy pickles, or sliced onion, too.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Swap the avocado mayo: Instead of the avocado mayonnaise, try a smoky chipotle mayo or earthy pesto mayo.
- Add another meat: You may also add sliced ham, roast beef, or even salami for more protein.
- Low-carb: Use lettuce leaves in place of sliced bread to make a nutritious, low-carb version.
How to Make a Turkey Club Sandwich
Here are the steps for preparing and assembling your turkey bacon club sandwich. Toast your bread slices while you mix the avocado spread to save even more time.

Step 1: Prepare the avocado spread. First, add the ingredients for the avocado mayo to a small bowl and stir until they are well combined.

Step 2: Spread it on the bread. Next, spread it on one side of two slices of bread, and on both sides of the remaining slice.

Step 3: Layer the first half. Then, grab one of the slices with mayo on one side and layer turkey, cheese, bacon, and tomato.

Step 4: Add the middle slice. Now you can place the slice of bread with mayo on both sides right on top of the tomato slices.

Step 5: Layer the remaining ingredients. Next, add the remaining turkey and bacon, and then the lettuce. Top it with the final slice of bread.

Step 6: Finish with toothpicks and slice it. Place a toothpick into each corner and cut the sandwich into four equal triangles.
Recipe Tips
- Directions for refrigeration: Place the sandwich in a Ziploc bag or wrap it tightly with plastic wrap. You may store it in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
- Don't overload the sandwich: Refrain from adding too many extra toppings, meat, etc. This will make it difficult to eat.
- Pat the tomato and lettuce dry: Veggies naturally are pretty wet, so I recommend patting the lettuce and tomato slices dry before adding them to your turkey club.

Serving Suggestions
- Fries and a sandwich are a classic pairing. You can opt for a classic French fry, or try my personal favorites: sweet potato fries and asparagus fries.
- You can't go wrong with a soup and sandwich for dinner or even lunch! Go simple with pumpkin carrot soup or hash brown potato soup to keep the club sandwich the star.
- I love a pasta salad like this Greek pasta salad with a turkey club!

Recipe FAQs
I don't recommend it. The veggies absorb a lot of moisture, making the sandwich very soggy as it thaws.
Technically, no, but I always do it not only for texture but to act as an extra barrier to prevent soggy bread.
This happens if you leave the sandwich sitting too long, or the lettuce and tomato are touching the bread and making it mushy.

- 1 ripe avocado smooshed
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ⅛ teaspoon pepper
Sandwich
- 6 slices hearty white bread lightly toasted
- 8 slices of bacon cut in half and cooked crisp
- 8-12 slices deli sliced turkey about ½ pound (it depends on how thin they're sliced)
- 4-6 slices cheddar cheese depending on how big your bread is
- romaine leaves about 4 torn in half
- 1 large tomato sliced about 8 slices
- Kosher salt and pepper
- 8 deli Toothpicks
Instructions
- In a bowl mix together the smooshed avocado, mayo, lemon juice, and pepper.
- Spread evenly over 1 side of 2 slices of bread and both sides of 1 slice.
- Place 1 slice of bread, bare side down, next to each other. Layer 2-3 slices of turkey on the bread slice followed by 2-3 slices of cheese on top. Add 4 half pieces of bacon followed by slices of tomato to fill the space evenly (about 3-4 slices).
- Lightly sprinkle salt and pepper over the tomato slices.
- Take the slice of bread with the avocado mayo spread on both sides and line the piece of bread on top of the tomatoes.
- Layer the remaining pieces of turkey on top of the stack followed by the remaining bacon pieces and lastly by a nice layer of romaine. Top with the last slice of bread, bare side up. Push 4 toothpicks, 1 in each corner of each sandwich and cut the sandwiches into 4 triangular pieces each. Repeat the process with the remaining sandwich.
- Serve with your favorite chips or a side of fries.
Notes
- Prepare your classic turkey club sandwich fresh for the best results.
- Toast the bread to help keep it from becoming soggy.
- Pat the tomato and lettuce dry before assembling the turkey club to remove excess moisture.
