Pita chips is a very easy and quick recipe anyone can make. These delicious and crispy Pita Chips are made in an air fryer and are perfect for dipping.

The air fryer is a baker's best friend. It makes cooking so much faster. I've made baked pita chips before and it took 20 minutes in the oven, in the air fryer it only takes 5 minutes!

Pita Chips are a great alternative to tortilla chips. Homemade pita chips are healthy snacks that can be dipped in almost everything and are a fun alternative to crackers, potato chips or bread.

This was inspired by my other baked pita chips recipe and pairs well with this any of these amazing dip recipes.

    Ingredients

Only 4 ingredients, wow! A quick trip to the local grocery store is all you need.

    • Pitas: Use white, whole wheat, gluten-free pita, garlic pita or even naan work with this recipe.
    • Olive Oil: Use any cooking oil like vegetable oil instead.
    • Salt and Pepper: Use as desired or add Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, taco seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or Za'atar (thyme and toasted sesame seeds) to the olive oil before brushing on your pitas

See the recipe card for exact quantities.

    Substitutions and Variations

Don't have the correct ingredients on hand to make these air fried pita chips? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this Pita Chips in air fryer recipe.

    • Spicy - Add chili pepper flakes while cooking to imbue heat into the dish, or banana peppers
    • Thinner, Crispier Chips - Separate your pocket pita into two pieces and reduce cooking time to use these for a snack or a lighter dip like our chipotle lime dip, buttermilk ranch, or creamy dill dip.
    • Thicker Chips - Use a pocket pita and do not separate it or use flatbread for a stronger chip to use with heavier dips like our bagel dip, copycat Neiman Markus million dollar dip, or slow-roasted onion dip.
    • Heat - Add red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or ancho chili powder. You can also add a few dashes of hot sauce or sriracha to your olive or vegetable oil
    • Kid-friendly - Use melted butter instead of oil and add vanilla bean sugar or cinnamon sugar onto chips before cooking. Use on a dessert dip like our chocolate chip cookie dough dip or our cream cheese dip, perfect for fruit too!

    Instructions

Here's how to make pita chips in air fryer, only 3 simple steps!

    Step 1: Cut the Pita

Using a knife or a pizza cutter, cut the pita into small triangles.

    Step 2: Season the Pita

Brush olive oil onto the pita triangles and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Oil and seasoning is all you need!

Step 3: Air fry the Pita

Air fry in single layer inside air fryer basket at 350ºF for 4-5 minutes or until chips start to turn golden.

Hint: Remember that all pita brands are slightly different and baking times can vary somewhat. You'll know your exact timing after you make your first batch so keep a close eye at first so your pitas don't burn.
