Instructions
You'll only need a few minutes to finish this easy Texas Roadhouse steak sauce recipe. The highlights are below, but you can find the specific instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.
1: Cook butter and flour until thick and bubbly.
2: Combine the remaining steak sauce ingredients.
3: Add to the roux and bring to a boil. Then, simmer until thickened.
4: After allowing your favorite cut of steak to rest add a little of this steak sauce to it and enjoy every bite!
Substitutions and Variations
- Liquid Smoke - Smoked paprika
- Minced Garlic - Use garlic powder instead
- Tomato Sauce - Use ketchup instead, we've done it on more than one occasion and result is definitely sweeter so you may want to reduce sugar.
- Steak - This barbecue sauce tastes great on regular hamburgers or air fryer hamburgers or all cuts of beef.
- Spicy - Add a teaspoon of chili pepper flakes, jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder to the sauce mixture to add some heat, if desired. I will also occasionally add a teaspoon of our homemade hot pepper sauce, or use your favorite hot sauce, to the sauce mixture.

Refrigerator: Store for up to a week in an air-tight container.

Texas Roadhouse Steak Sauce Copycat
Equipment
- mason jar or equivalent for storing
- squeeze bottle optional for easy use
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoon all purpose flour
- ¾ cup beef stock
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoon liquid smoke
- 2 tablespoon worcheshire
- 2 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup apple butter
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- ½ teaspoon corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon anchovy paste
Instructions
- Heat a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour. Cook for 3 minutes, or until thickened and bubbling.
- Combine beef stock, minced garlic, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, apple butter, soy sauce, distilled white vinegar, lime juice, tomato paste, corn syrup and anchovy paste in a bowl and whisk well.
- Slowly incorporate this into the roux, whisking as you add about ¼ cup at a time. Allow sauce to come to a low boil in between pours.
- Once fully incorporated, lower heat to a simmer for 10 minutes, or until thickened and enjoy!
