- extra virgin olive oil
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Green pepper
- Yellow onion
- Sirloin steak
- Cheddar cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
- Alfredo sauce - storebought or our homemade
Substitutions
- Spicy - Add a bit of chili pepper flakes, diced jalapeno pepper, our jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder to the vegetable mixture for a bit of heat. You can also serve up our homemade hot pepper sauce on the table as well.
- Tater Tots - Use cooked diced potatoes, frozen french fries or frozen hash browns instead.
- Olive Oil - Use vegetable oil instead.
- Garlic Powder - Use garlic flakes or dehydrated garlic or fresh garlic instead.
- Onion Powder - Use onion flakes instead.
- Green Pepper - Use a yellow, red, orange, or mixture instead.
- Yellow Onion - Use a sweet red or purple onion instead.
- Sirloin Steak - Sirloin steak is the best option for this recipe, however, other cuts of steak such as ribeye, strip steak, or skirt steak would also work. Ground beef or turkey, chicken, shrimp, sausage, meatballs, or pork will work, as well. Alternatively, you could also omit the meat entirely and just use ½ cup more of each vegetable instead.
- Cheddar and Mozzarella Cheese - Experiment with different cheese mixtures such as Swiss, Havarti, Fontina, Gouda cheese, Gruyere cheese, Monterey jack cheese, Colby jack, pepper jack, provolone or any other type of shredded cheese that you prefer.
- Alfredo Sauce - Use our homemade alfredo sauce, ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, teriyaki, pesto, salsa verde, or marinara sauce instead.
- More flavor - Add herbs such as oregano leaves, thyme leaves, or basil when seasoning the tater tots with olive oil and spices, if desired.
- More Vegetables - Add diced tomatoes, garlic, zucchini, broccoli, artichoke hearts, baby spinach, baby kale, chopped carrots, celery, or cauliflower, mushrooms, or olives to your onions and peppers mixture while sauteing.
- Make it a Meal - Serve with a side salad or use as side dish.
- Garnish - Top with scallions, chives, bacon crumble, freshly grated parmesan cheese, fresh chopped parsley, oregano, basil, thyme, cilantro or dill.
Variations
We have recreated the Philly Cheese Steak version but Dominos offers two others that are easier to create, and here they are, if desired. Cook tater tots as directed, add cheeses and bake or broil until melted. Add sauce to resealable bag and cut corner off or use squirt bottle to add sauce as soon a tots come out of oven and cheese is melted and hot.
- Melty 3-Cheese: Topped with ⅓ cup mozzarella, ⅓ cup cheddar, ⅓ cup provolone and ½-3/4 cup Alfredo sauce.
- Cheddar Bacon: Topped with ¼ cup chopped bacon (or 4 slices), ½ cup mozzarella, ½ cup cheddar, and ½-3/4 cup Garlic Parmesan sauce.

This turned out delicious! I made a vegetarian version with sautéed mushrooms and roasted artichokes. It turned out a million times better than dominoes. This recipe also saves $ compared to ordering fast food.
