    • Crowd pleaser. It's hearty and satisfying and sure to be a favorite comfort food, with children and parents alike. I am sure your family will love this pork chop recipe.

    Ingredients

Here's a look at the simple ingredients you need to make fall-apart slow cooker pork chops with hoisin sauce.

Ingredients needed to make slow cooker pork chops with hoisin sauce on the table before mixing.
    • Pork Chops: You can use bone-in or boneless pork chops though I find the bone-in to be juicier and more flavorful.
    • Chinese 5 Spice Powder: Chinese five-spice powder will add both sweetness and spiciness to the Chinese barbecue sauce.
    • Hoisin Sauce: This thick and dark Chinese condiment is salty, savory, and a little bit sweet. It's often compared to American BBQ sauce but is less sweet. It's the main ingredient adding both flavor and consistency to the glaze on your pork chops.
    • Honey and Sugar: Both add sweetness but the honey also adds a sticky, thick texture to the glaze.
    • Soy Sauce: Enhances the flavor and tenderizes the meat.
    • Ketchup: Added for flavor. You can substitute it for barbecue or chili sauce instead. Tomato paste also works if you want a less sweet sauce.
    • Dry Sherry: Sherry complements the richness of the pork.
    • Sesame Oil: Sesame oil adds flavor so I recommend not swapping it for another type of oil.
    • Ginger and Garlic: Use fresh for the best flavor!

See the recipe card below for the full ingredient list and the exact quantities of each one.

    Variations

    • Add Sliced Onions: Sprinkle sliced onion on the bottom of your slow cooker creating a bed for the meat to cook on for added flavor.
    • Garnish: Add a sprinkling of thinly sliced green onions or crushed peanuts to the pork before serving for a little crunch.
    • Pulled Pork: Cook a well-marbled (streaks of fat) pork shoulder on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 6 hours resulting in moist, flavorful, tender pork that's easy to shred.
    • Add Some Heat: Add a bit of chili pepper flakes, diced jalapeno pepper, homemade hot pepper sauce, jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder to the hoisin mixture for a spicy kick.

    Storage

Storing: Place your pork with hoisin sauce in an airtight container inside your fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to three months.

Reheat: Use your slow cooker to reheat by placing frozen or thawed in greased slow cooker on low and reheat for 1-2 hours or until the pork reaches 145°F and is heated through. You can also use the oven. Place defrosted pork chops in a baking dish with a little water or broth, cover, and bake for 15-20 minutes or heated through. Depending on the size of your pork timing may be longer. You can also reheat in the microwave using short intervals to avoid over-cooking but this is not my favorite methods.

What to Serve with Hoisin Pork

    • It's Great with Rice. Serve your hoisin pork with fluffy white rice, easy coconut ginger rice or Instant Pot cheesy broccoli rice. These are great because the absorb the sauce.
    • Add Seasonal Vegetables. Choose from vegetable side dishes like our green bean stir fry, sweet and sour green beans, sweet green beans, or air fryer parmesan green beans for a complete meal.
    • Enjoy It Shredded. Shred the pork with two forks while it's hot and serve it over rice with this air fryer cabbage. It's also great stuffed into tacos or warm flour tortillas!
