There's something so fun about turning classic hot dogs into bite-sized sliders that everyone can grab and enjoy. The sweet rolls with savory hot dogs create a perfect balance of flavor in every bite. The melted butter brushed on top adds a rich, golden finish that makes them irresistible.

This was inspired by my crack chicken sliders and turkey burger sliders on this site, and pairs well with this chicken bacon ranch pasta salad.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • Quick and easy: Ready in under 20 minutes
    • Perfect for crowds: Great for parties and gatherings and loved by all ages
    • Budget-friendly: Affordable ingredients

    Ingredients

This recipe uses just a few basic ingredients, making it easy to throw together anytime without a special grocery trip.

All the ingredients to make Hot Dog Sliders in bowls on a table
    • Hawaiian rolls: Provide a soft, slightly sweet base that complements the savory hot dogs
    • Hot dogs: The main protein that delivers classic flavor
    • Butter: Adds richness and helps toast the buns to golden perfection
    • Cheese: Adds creamy, melty goodness inside the sliders, if desired, and stops hot dogs from moving
    • Hot Dog Toppings: Ketchup, Onion Ketchup, Mustard, Garlic Mayo, and Relish add flavor

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

    Variations

    • Chili dogs: Add chili on top before serving like our oven baked chili dogs
    • Bacon dogs: Add a sprinkling of bacon bits before serving
    • BBQ dogs: Add barbecue sauce and onions
    • Spicy dogs: Add jalapenos, scotch bonnet hot sauce or jalapeno mustard

How to Make Hot Dog Sliders

This recipe is incredibly simple and comes together in just a few easy steps. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray an 9x13 casserole dish lightly with cooking spray.

Place your sliders into the bottom of your casserole dish and cut a slit into the tops of the buns about ¾ of the way to the bottom. Spread the cuts slightly and push a slice of cheese inside, if using, followed by a hot dog inside the cheese in each slit.

Brush the buns with the melted butter.

Bake in your preheated oven uncovered for 10-15 minutes or until the tops are toasted and the hotdogs are heated throughout.

Slice and separate the sliders and add your favorite hot dog toppings. Serve.

    Recipe Tips

    • Don't cut too deep: Keeps buns intact
    • Use a serrated knife: Helps slice the rolls cleanly without squishing them
    • Use bun-length hot dogs: Better fit or cut hot dogs to correct size
    • Serve warm: Best taste and texture
    • Cover loosely with foil: Prevents over-browning if baking longer
    • Add seeds: After you brush on melted butter quickly sprinkle on sesame or poppy seeds for a classic hot dog bun look

    Storage Directions

These sliders store well and can be reheated easily for later enjoyment.

Refrigerator: Store up to 3 days without toppings in airtight container

Freezer: Freeze up to 3 months (texture may change). Make sure to add the toppings after thawed and reheated.

Reheat: Microwave or oven until warm

Make Ahead: Assemble ahead and bake when ready

    Serving Suggestions

    • Serve with potato chips, fries, sweet potato fries or potato wedges
    • Serve at parties or add to game day food board
    • Serve with grandma's coleslaw, potato salad or deviled egg macaroni salad or bell pepper salad
