Air Fryer Eggs on Toast aka Egg in a Hole is a super easy breakfast that uses an air fryer to make a perfectly cooked egg with crispy toast, every time. This quick and healthy meal is perfect for busy mornings and a great way to start your day.

Egg in a hole on a white plate with yolk broken.

Using the air fryer to make breakfast saves me so much time in the morning. It's quick, simple, and requires very little effort from me.

My air fryer pancakes go well with these eggs. So do my french toast bites. You may want to add stuffed hash browns to your breakfast menu. Don't forget my bacon twists. They taste great with eggs. My candied bacon is a side that is worth checking out...the possibilities are endless.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • This air fryer egg toast recipe requires just a few ingredients and takes minutes to prepare.
    • Make this dish using your favorite bread and toppings.
    • Your egg is cooked to perfection, every time.
    • Less mess and clean-up required compared to using a stove and a frying pan.

    Ingredients

For a delicious Air Fryer Eggs on Toast, gather the following ingredients:

Ingredients needed to make air fryer eggs on toast.
    • Bread: This recipe works any type of bread. Use white, sourdough, whole wheat, multi-grain, rye, or your favorite.
    • Large Eggs: Use room-temperature eggs for best results by simply leaving eggs on the counter before cooking for 30 minutes.

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

    Substitutions and Variations

This egg in a hole air fryer recipe is super easy to customize to suit your personal tastes.

    • Spicy: Add a sprinkling of chili pepper flakes, our jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder to the egg for a bit of heat. You can also serve up our homemade hot pepper sauce on the table as well.
    • Add Butter: For extra flavor and crispiness, spread a thin layer of butter on the bread before placing it in the air fryer. Olive oil or cooking spray will work too.
    • Egg Whites: If you only want to use egg whites I suggest using two per slice of toast.
    • Add Cheese: Add your favorite shredded cheese like cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella, under your egg or add a sprinkling or a slice to the top a minute or two before the egg is finished cooking. This will allow enough time for the cheese to melt.
    • Add Bacon: Chop and add cooked bacon bits or pieces under or on top of your egg in the last minute or two of cooking. It's a good idea to place it under the cheese to prevent the air fryer from blowing the bacon bits around.
    • Add Flavor: Consider adding a pinch of parsley, chives, or green onion when serving.
    • Make an Omelet: Instead of cracking one egg inside each bread slice, scramble each egg and mix omelet ingredients in with the egg. Then pour that mixture into the hole.
    • Darker Toast: If you prefer your toast a bit darker, toast the bread without the egg first.

How to Make Air Fryer Eggs on Toast

This dish is a snap to make! Here's a look at the steps to make it.

PRO TIP: Toast your bread in a toaster lightly before adding the egg. This gives it a firmer texture and helps keep the toast from getting soggy.

    1. Use a glass to make an indentation in the slices of bread as a spot for the eggs.
    2. Place the prepared bread into your preheated and greased air fryer basket.
Add the egg to the indent in the toast and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
A glass jar pressing into a piece of bread.
Two bread slices with raw eggs on top in air fryer.
    1. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the egg is cooked to your preference.

PRO TIP: Depending on how hard you prefer your yolk you will need to adjust the cooking time.

    1. Serve it up and enjoy!
Two cooked eggs inside air fryer,
    Two eggs on serving plate.

⭐️ Hint: If you're cooking more than one egg on toast at a time inside your air fryer make sure there is enough space between them, allowing for proper air circulation.

What to Serve with Egg on Toast

Consider these serving suggestions to create a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

    • Add some bacon or sausage. Either this glazed bacon or air fryer bacon wrapped sausage would be great.
    • Add some fruit and veggies. Serve your egg in a hole with some avocado, fresh baby spinach, fresh fruit or a fruit salad.
    • Breakfast potatoes go great. Consider adding a side of hash browns or oven breakfast potatoes, or slow cooker bacon breakfast potatoes.

    Tips

When preparing your Air Fryer Eggs on Toast, consider these tips to ensure a delicious outcome:

    • Make them fresh. They are so easy and quick to make I don't recommend trying to make ahead or plan for leftovers.
    • Crack the eggs into a small bowl one a time to add to the toast. This makes it easier to add the egg to the top of your toast inside the air fryer basket.
    • Keep an eye on your egg's progress the first time you make this recipe in preheated air fryer to ensure the egg doesn't overcook. You may need to adjust the cooking time to get perfectly cooked eggs.
    • Be ready to adjust the cooking time. If you prefer a runny yolk, reduce the amount of time or if you like it cooked more, increase the cooking time by a minute or two .
    • Don't overcrowd the toast in the air fryer. Make sure there is enough space between each slide, allowing for proper air circulation.
    • Lightly toast the bread in a toaster before using it in your air fryer if you prefer darker toast.
