Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s easy: This is a simple recipe that takes ordinary pretzels to the next level. They’re rich and indulgent, yet so easy and fun.
- It’s only 4 ingredients: You need just 4 components to make this tasty treat. The mint extract flavors the chocolate and coconut oil makes it easy for dipping.
- It has balanced flavors: These pretzels are delightfully salty and sweet with a pop of mint.
Ingredients
The only ingredients you need are the chocolate, mint, and pretzels—plus the oil to ensure a silky smooth mixture for dipping. It doesn’t get any easier!

- Mini pretzels: I like mini pretzel twists for this recipe. They are easy to coat evenly as well as perfectly bite-sized.
- Chocolate chips: Semi-sweet chocolate is my favorite for these chocolate mint pretzels. They aren’t as sweet as milk chocolate or as bitter as dark chocolate.
- Coconut oil: This is used to help prevent the melted chocolate from seizing while you dip pretzels. The chocolate remains smooth without adding a prominent coconut flavor.
- Mint extract: Just a simple mint extract works great for this. It’s what gives the pretzels that classic Thin Mint flavor.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Peppermint chocolate-covered pretzels: Try peppermint extract and finish the dipped pretzels with crushed peppermint candies for a twist.
- White chocolate Oreo pretzels: Swap the semi-sweet for white chocolate and sprinkle crushed Oreos on top.
- Pistachio mint pretzels: Chopped pistachios make a great salty garnish for the top of the mint chocolate pretzels.
How to Make Thin Mint Pretzels
It will only take you 15 minutes to prepare chocolate peppermint pretzels. Line a baking sheet with parchment to ensure it’s ready to go when you need it.

Step 1: Make the coating. Combine the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl with the coconut oil and mint extract. Heat the mixture in 30-second intervals into it’s completely melted and smooth. Stir often!

Step 2: Dip the pretzels. Dip each pretzel with a fork and tap off the excess. Lay them out on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3: Chill and set. Put your pan in the refrigerator and allow those chocolatey mint pretzels to fully set for at least 30 minutes.

Step 4: Serve. Transfer them to a serving bowl and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Use the double boiler method: Instead of the microwave, try the double boiler method to melt the chocolate. Fill a saucepan with water and add chocolate to a heat-safe bowl. Heat the chocolate over the hot water until it melts.
- Try Andes mints instead: Make this recipe by melting Andes mints instead of chocolate chips and mint extract.
- Set them in the freezer: Place the pan in the freezer to set instead of the refrigerator. It will cut the time in half!
- Storing: Store extras in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Freeze them in a Ziploc bag for up to 1 month.

Recipe FAQs
Shortening or vegetable oil makes a great replacement for coconut oil if you’re allergic to coconut. They still help keep the chocolate smooth for dipping.
Pretzel snaps, sticks or even pretzel rods will work fine in this recipe. I just prefer to go classic with the twists!
As long as your kitchen isn’t unusually warm, that should work just fine. If you notice them melting on the counter, pop them into the refrigerator.
