Oreo Mint Balls
I'm always impressed by the flavor of homemade mint desserts. Not only do these Oreo mint balls give off a ton of Oreo flavor but they're mixed perfectly with mint, too.
And since Oreo mint balls are smaller than a cookie or a piece of cake, I never feel bad for grabbing more than one to snack on as well. In fact, I typically grab one (or two) Oreo mint balls and have a quick snack every time I walk past the plate in the kitchen.
Because what's the purpose of making a delicious Oreo mint balls dessert if you're not going to eat it?
I have a habit of making homemade treats that are just too much for me to eat so this is one recipe that I don't mind sharing with family and friends as well. And I can promise you that they love getting them, too!

Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls
There is a huge debate at my house whether to use semi-sweet dark colored chocolate or white chocolate to make these easy Oreo truffle balls.
Frankly, I use both, whichever is handy or I grab first. Some think using semi-sweet dark colored chocolate to make a chocolate covered Oreo ball is perfect.
Love the dark color and the way the decorations look on top of each of them.
Same goes for making a decadent white chocolate covered Oreo ball. If you prefer the look of Oreo truffles them using the white chocolate go for it. That is an easy switch.
If you want to make white chocolate Oreo truffles with this recipe simply exchange the dark chocolate for the white in this easy chocolate covered Oreo ball recipe.

My husband insists that processing your cookies in a food processor is intimidating and I suppose it is. However if that's the case you can always place your Oreos inside a resealable bag and using a rolling pin flatten and crush your cookies as best you can.
Your final result will definitely not be as smooth but make no mistake these addictive treats will still disappear lightening fast without a single complaint.
I can almost guarantee it.
Next, you must blend your crushed or finely ground up cookies with cream cheese until blended perfectly.
Roll into about fifteen 1-inch balls and space them evenly on top of your plate or platter covered in parchment.
Freeze, uncovered, until firm, about 20 minutes.
Now you can the chocolate ready for dipping.
Microwave chocolate and oil or butter in bowl at 50 percent power, in 30 second bursts, stirring in between bursts, until melted and smooth, 2 to 4 minutes.
Using toothpick, dip mint ball into melted chocolate to coat, letting excess chocolate drip back into bowl.
Return mint ball to plate, remove toothpick, and immediately decorate with sprinkles and sparkles.
Repeat with remaining mint balls and chocolate.
Freeze mint balls, uncovered, until chocolate has hardened, about 10 minutes.
Store in refrigerator until ready to serve and that is it!
Tips for making Oreo Mint Balls
The premise of this recipe is super simple. Be certain that you have a food processor or blender that you can use as you're going to want to ground up the cookies as fine as possible.
If you want a more minty flavor think about crushing up ⅓ of a cup of peppermints, even candy canes, and adding them to your cream cheese mixture.
Talk about adding additional minty flavor! You just created an even better peppermint Oreo ball.
It's important that you use softened cream cheese in this recipe, too. If not, there's a chance that you're going to have lumps of cream cheese and that just isn't a pleasant experience for anyone taking a bite.
Factor in about 20 minutes for them to go into the freezer once you've rolled them and put them on parchment paper. This time is essential in helping them firm up so that they'll hold shape and be ready to dip in the chocolate.
When you're ready to dip the Oreo balls, the trick is to use a toothpick to poke into the balls and dip them down into the chocolate that way. This makes it SUPER simple to cover them in chocolate and then easily add on the sprinkles.
Don't forget to have a plate under while you're adding on sprinkles because it'll catch the ones that drop and then you can use them again and not waste them.
You're going to want to freeze them one more time for about 10 minutes or so that the chocolate hardens up and helps hold the shape.
What happens if my Oreo Balls won't stay together once rolled?
There could be a couple of issues that you need to correct. You might not have made the mixture quite "wet" enough to stick together so you can always change up the consistency to make it a bit better.
The other issue is that you need to leave it in the freezer for a few more minutes. Even though the guideline is 30 minutes, you can extend that for a few more if you need.
Can you make and freeze these for later?
You bet. Since this recipe makes 30 Oreo Mint Balls, you might have too many to eat. Instead of wasting them or eating so many that you no longer enjoy them, freeze them for later instead.
All you have to do is add them to a freezer-safe bag and store them in the freezer until you're ready for round 2.
How do you store Oreo Balls once made?
Once you make these homemade Oreo balls you're going to want to store them in the fridge. It's important to keep them as cool as possible so that the chocolate doesn't milk and the cream cheese on the inside stays good as well.
As I mentioned above you can also add them to the freezer to store for later as well.
