This Oreo brownies recipe combines the best of two chocolate worlds. A layer of Oreo cookies inside rich, fudgy brownies and a crushed Oreos on top of the brownies create a super-chocolatey dessert that explodes with classic flavors.

    A stack of brownies.

In our experience, brownies are always a crowd-pleaser. Absolutely no one can say no to them. No one can say no to Oreos, either, which is why we combined both flavors into one amazing brownie.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • Simple Ingredients: Outside of the Oreos, this recipe uses basic baking ingredients found in any kitchen.
    • Easy: These brownies use a simple batter with layered Oreos. They're so simple to make!
    • Rich and Fudgy: The brownie batter is super fudgy, and the Oreos add even more chocolaty flavor.

    Ingredients

This recipe uses basic baking ingredients that we all have in our kitchen. Some of them are standard for any baked good, so we're listing the ingredients that make these brownies really pop.

    Ingredients needed for making brownies.
    • Cocoa Powder: Cocoa powder gives these brownies a deep chocolate flavor.
    • Oreos: Oreos in the center and on top of the brownies adds more chocolate flavor and that signature filling.
    • Eggs and Butter: A cup of butter and 4 eggs adds the fat necessary to make these brownies absolutely fudge-tacular.

See the recipe card at the end of the post for a full list of ingredients and their exact quantities.

    Substitutions and Variations

Don't have the correct ingredients on hand? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this Oreo brownies recipe.

    • Cocoa Powder: Dutched cocoa powder adds even deeper chocolate flavor without bitterness.
    • Oreos: Use your favorite Oreo variety to change the flavor of these brownies.
    • Nuts: Mixing chopped nuts into the batter adds even more flavor and texture.
    • Add Chocolate Chips: For more or some different flavor add a ¼ cup of semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, caramel or peanut butter chips to your batter.

    Instructions

These brownies are simple, basic brownies with one added step. They're super easy to make and beginner-friendly.

A mixing bowl full of dry and wet ingredients.

In a large mixing bowl, add sugar, flour, butter, eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla, baking powder, and salt. Beat well until the batter is smooth.

A layer of batter covered with Oreo cookies.

Transfer half of the batter to your prepared pan. Add a layer of 12 Oreos on top. Broken or not. Pour the remaining batter on top of the Oreos.

Remaining batter covered with remaining Oreo cookies.

Break the remaining 12 Oreos into pieces and sprinkle them evenly over the top of the batter. Gently press them into the batter.

Bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting and serving.

Hint: Press the top layer of Oreos in the batter just enough for them to stay in place. You already have a layer of Oreos in the center of the brownies.

    Storage

Room Temperature: Store these brownies in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.

Refrigerator: Don't refrigerate the brownies. They'll dry out.

Freezer: Wrap the brownies in plastic wrap, then store them for up to 2 months in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. Bring frozen brownies to room temperature on the counter before serving.

Make Ahead: Brownies should be fully cooled before you slice and serve them. So they're perfect for making ahead of time.

    • Always let your brownies cool completely before slicing them so they hold their shape.

    FAQ

Do you have questions about Oreo brownies? Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about this Oreo brownies recipe.

Can I use any Oreo cookies for this recipe?

You sure can. Different Oreo cookie flavors create a different flavor profile for the brownies. Almost all Oreo flavors work well with chocolate, so have fun getting creative!

How do you cleanly cut brownies?

First, let your brownies cool completely. This allows the fudgy center to set. Then, use a sharp knife with as little pressure as necessary to make your cuts.

How do you keep brownies from drying out?

Add a slice of white bread to your container when you store your brownies. The moisture from the bread keeps the brownies from drying out.
