A chocolaty, peanut butter-filled pie that's so smooth and creamy, what's not to love?
My dad being a HUGE peanut butter and chocolate fan, absolutely ADORED this pie. Because of the calories, my mother didn't make it very often, but when she did, my father was in heaver! The look on his face said it all!
My late husband and father were very close, and when they sat down together to enjoy this chocolate peanut butter pie, that's pretty much all they talked about!
The Perfect Crust or Base
Traditionally, this easy chocolate peanut butter pie is made with a chocolate crumb or Oreo crumb crust.
Buying a pie crust is a viable option, but making one yourself is pretty easy. Some people bake them and others prefer not to. Another choice you get to make.
To up our game, we use stuffed peanut butter Oreos or regular stuffed Oreos to make the crust. Simply pulse broken cookies into fine crumbs. Add melted butter and press it into a pie plate, all the way up the sides of the pie plate too.
Adding stuffed creamed cookies really ramps up the flavor of the crust, and gives it extra richness.
Whether baking the crust or not, always remember to prepare the base or crust first, and let it cool before topping it with those heavenly layers.
To Bake
For a crispy crust every time, baking is one way to go. Simply preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Pulse 25 Oreo cookies into fine crumbs and mix with 5 tablespoons of butter.
Press into a 9-inch pie plate, and bake for 8-9 minutes. Set aside until it has completely cooled, before adding those delightful layers.
Or Not to Bake
If making a no-bake crust, leave it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, if not an hour, before you start layering.
Using a graham cracker crust is absolutely fine. More often than not, we choose chocolate crumbs or Oreo crumbs, because the taste is even more amazing.
Rarely do I bake the crust. Why not let the fridge do most of the work?
My husband insists on baking it, because that's the way he was shown. No matter what I say, he will always bake the crust. To which I say, "have at it. Whatever floats your boat". It's going to turn out great no matter what.
Just in case you want to go the graham cracker crust route, here's how to prepare it:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Measure and mix 1-½ cups of crushed graham cracker crumbs with 4 tablespoons sugar, and 6 tablespoons melted butter.
Press mixture into a 9-inch pie plate, remembering to press crust into the sides as well. Bake for 10 minutes and allow to completely cool before adding the layers.
Can you Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Ahead of Time?
Can't think of a more perfect dessert to make ahead of time, because it needs to chill for at least 6 hours in the fridge. Overnight is ideal.
When the time comes, remove it from the fridge and serve!
The only problem in making it the day before is the temptation to sample a little piece ahead of time. My husband will tell you I'm the worst offender. This pie is what dreams are made of! I kid you not.
