    Ingredients

    • Unsalted Butter: Adds richness to your brownies.
    • Granulated Sugar: Contributes to the sweetness but also the structure and texture of the brownies. While granulated sugar is preferred you can also use brown sugar for a slightly different flavor profile.
    • Large Eggs: Using room-temperature eggs is crucial for binding the ingredients together and creating richer, fudgy brownies.
    • Vanilla Extract: Pure vanilla extract is preferred.
    • Cocoa Powder: Creates intense chocolate flavor. Dutch-processed cocoa can be used for a smoother, less acidic flavor than natural cocoa powder.
    • All-Purpose Flour: Creates the structure and texture of the brownies that are needed.
    • Salt: A pinch of salt balances the chocolate flavor.
    • Caramel-Toffee Bits: Adds wonderful bits of caramel or toffee flavor to every bite.
    • Rainbow Sprinkles: The sky is the limit here! Use traditional funfetti sprinkles or seasonal colors or colors to correspond to a theme! Jimmies, nonpareils, or even shaped confetti all work here!
    • Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips and Unsalted Butter: Make a wonderful glaze that's rich and chocolatey. You can also use a chocolate or vanilla frosting instead.
    • Corn Syrup: The secret to a shiny chocolate sauce.

See the recipe card below for the full ingredient list plus the exact quantities of each ingredient.

    Variations

    • Brownies with Nuts: Add your favorite chopped nuts like peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, or walnuts to give your cookies added crunch.
    • Adding Espresso: A teaspoon of espresso powder enhances the chocolatey richness.
    • Powdered Sugar: A light dusting adds sweetness and looks terrific under the sprinkles.
    • Chunks or Chips: Peanut butter chips, semisweet chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel, butterscotch, white chocolate, or milk chocolate chips are ways to elevate your brownies. You can also try chunks of milk chocolate or white chocolate

These brownies pair quite nicely with this sprinkles ice cream.

How to Make Brownies with Sprinkles

Melted butter in a bowl with sugar added.

Step 1: Melt the butter and then add the sugar. Mix well until the mixture is smooth and sugar is fully incorporated.

Eggs and vanilla are added to the bowl with the melted butter and sugar.

Step 2: Add in the beaten eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.

Flour and cocoa powdered added to the bowl with the melted butter mixture.

Step 3: Sift the cocoa powder, flour, and salt into the wet mixture. Stir until just combined but don't over-mix.

Toffee bits are added to the bowl of mixed brownie batter.

Step 4: Fold in the caramel-toffee bits into the batter until evenly distributed.

Brownie batter spread into a baking pan.

Step 5: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly with an offset spatula. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs, but not wet batter.

Baked brownies removed from the pan and cooling on a wire rack.

Step 6: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Use the parchment to lift out the brownies and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate glaze in a small white bowl.

Step 7: Melt the chocolate chips and butter together until smooth in the microwave or double boiler. Stir in the corn syrup until well combined.

Chocolate glaze on top of the brownies.

Step 8: Spread the chocolate glaze over the top of the fully cooled brownies.

Spreading the glaze over the top of the brownies.

Step 9: Spread the chocolate glaze evenly over the top of the brownies with an offset spatula.

Sprinkles added to the top of the glaze and the brownies with rainbow sprinkles are cut into squares.

Step 10: Sprinkle the rainbow sprinkles generously over the top of the wet glaze! Allow the glaze to set before slicing and serving the brownies. Serve and enjoy!

⭐️ Hint: Use parchment paper to easily remove the entire sheet of brownies from the pan. Allow the edges of the parchment paper to cover the bottom of the pan but extend over the top of the sides so you have handles you can easily grab to remove the brownies from the pan.

    Storage

PRO TIP: Handle brownies gently to keep the sprinkles intact. It is important to allow the brownies to cool and the glaze to set completely before storing.

    • Storing: Place the brownies with rainbow sprinkles in an airtight container. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Store in the refrigerated for up to five days. They must be refrigerated because of the chocolate ganache layer.
    • Freezer: You can also freeze them for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature or in the refrigerator before serving. Sprinkles on brownies may bleed colors after they're thawed but it will not affect the taste.

These brownies pair well with this sprinkles ice cream. Give it a try...you won't regret it.

    Tips

    • Size of the Pan. Use an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 baking dish. The right size pan is crucial because if the pan is too big the brownies will be dry, and if it's too small, they'll be undercooked.
    • Use Parchment Paper. Lining the pan with parchment paper makes removal and cleanup so much easier.
    • Avoid Over-Mixing. This leads to tough, dense brownies.
    • Don't Over-Bake. Insert a toothpick into the center that should come out basically clean with a few moist crumbs attached. Over-baking will cause dry brownies.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I add sprinkles to the brownie batter?

Yes! Add the sprinkles to the prepared batter along with the toffee bits and gently fold them in with a kitchen spatula.

Are there any specific types of sprinkles best suited for brownies?

While any type can be used, nonpareils and jimmies are popular choices for their texture and color retention. As long as you choose high-quality sprinkles and gently folding them into the batter, they should retain their color.
