One of my new favorite treats is these chocolate-covered Mint Oreos. I have made them at home and for bake sales and the reaction is always the same — everyone wants the recipe! These little bites of peppermint and chocolate heaven are sure to be the hit at your next party, too.
The chocolate cookie and soft peppermint patty are a great texture contrast. My favorite part is the gooey filling of the mint candy. Then, the whole thing is enrobed in rich melted chocolate. If you’re not careful, you’ll eat them all in one sitting!

Why You’ll Love This Mint Oreos Recipe
- Perfect for chocolate lovers: From the chocolate cookies to the chocolate coating. It’s an overload of chocolate!
- Easy to make: There’s no baking or a large amount of preparation needed for these stuffed Oreos.
- Ready in 20 minutes: It only takes 20 minutes to make this treat from start to finish. This includes setting time!
Ingredients
With just 6 ingredients, you will get adorable and delicious peppermint Oreos. This is a simple recipe and the ingredients aren’t expensive or hard to find.
- Oreo cookies: I use original Oreo cookies for this recipe. Feel free to use any brand of chocolate sandwich cookie that you like.
- York miniature peppermint patties: You must find the mini peppermint patties for this. The regular ones are much bigger than the Oreos. I love the mint flavor and texture of these candies.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: To keep these cookies from going over the top, I like to use semi-sweet chocolate or even dark chocolate. I find that milk chocolate makes them overly sweet but if you disagree, try it!
- Coconut oil: I add coconut oil to the melted chocolate to make it shiny and smooth. This makes dipping the stuffed Oreos much easier.
- White chocolate chips: this is one of the garnishes I like to add for presentation. A little white chocolate drizzle makes these cookies extra fun!
- Chocolate jimmies: If you didn’t already know, “jimmies” is another name for sprinkles. I added them because they're cute but they can be omitted if you prefer.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Crushed peppermint garnish: Instead of chocolate drizzle and sprinkles, try this recipe with crushed peppermint candies on top for extra mint flavor.
- Mint Oreos: Try this recipe with mint cream Oreos instead of the original.
- Mint Chip Drizzle: Swap the white chocolate drizzle for a mint chip drizzle. This adds more mint flavor and a nice green color.
How to Make Mint Oreos
Here are all of the instructions needed to make these peppermint Oreos. Be sure to line a baking sheet with parchment paper so they have a place to set!
Step 1: Open the Oreos. Separate the two halves of the Oreo cookies.
Step 2: Add the patty. Place a peppermint patty in the center and then put them all back together.
Step 3: Melt the chocolate and oil. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and coconut oil to a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat the mixture in 30-second intervals until it is smooth.
Step 4: Dip the cookies. Using a fork, dip each of the cookies into the melted chocolate. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove the excess chocolate. Repeat this for each of the mint cookies. Place them all on the baking sheet to set and harden.
Step 5: Drizzle and set. Add the white chocolate chips to separate bowl. Heat it the same as the semi-sweet and transfer it to a piping bag. Add a drizzle of white chocolate to each cookie. Allow it to be fully set for a couple of minutes on the counter.
Step 6: Serve. Enjoy one as soon as they're set or save them for later!
Hint: When putting the cookies back together after adding the peppermint patties, be careful not to press too hard. The candy is delicate and you don’t want it to be squished or leak filling.

Storage Directions
- Refrigeration: For best results, store these mint Oreos in an airtight in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Freezing: Place the Oreos into a freezer-safe bag and store them in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw them at room temperature before enjoying them.
- Make Ahead: Make these tasty peppermint patty cookies up to 24 hours in advance and store them in the refrigerator until you need them.
Serving Suggestions
- Up the peppermint flavor and enjoy one of these with a cup of Peppermint Mocha or use one of these Peppermint Hot Chocolate Truffles.
- Cookies and milk are a classic combination and I will always recommend a cold glass to go with these Oreos.
- Add them as a garnish to a cake or cupcakes. Try them with Grandma’s Oreo Cookie Cake or Chocolate Mint Cupcakes.
Recipe Tips
- Let the chocolate set before drizzling: Ensure that the chocolate is set before you add the white chocolate drizzle. If the chocolate is still, it will melt off the sides.
- Serve at room temperature: After storing in the fridge, let these set at room temperature for a few minutes to come to room temperature. It makes them easier to eat.
- Dunk them carefully: There’s not much holding the cookies together until the chocolate coating hardens, so be extra careful when dunking them into the melted chocolate.
Recipe FAQs
No! They will set just fine at room temperature. If you want to speed up the process by a couple of minutes, you may set them in the refrigerator.
Of course! If you prefer, you may use a double boiler on the stove instead of the microwave. Just go low and slow so you don't burn the chocolate.

Mint Stuffed Oreos
Ingredients
- 6 Oreo cookies original or double stuffed
- 6 York Miniature Peppermint Patties
- 1 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate chip cookies
- 1 teaspoons coconut oil
- ⅓ cup white chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons chocolate jimmies
Instructions
- Prepare a small cookie sheet by lining with parchment paper.
- Gently twist 6 of the Oreos apart.
- Sandwich one peppermint patty in between the two halves of each Oreo.
- In a microwave safe dish, melt together the semisweet chocolate chips and the coconut oil.
- Once melted and smooth, use a fork to carefully dunk each of the Oreo York sandwiches into the chocolate. Gently tap the bottom of the fork holding the dipped cookie against the edge of the bowl to help the excess chocolate drip off, then place the cookie onto the prepared parchment lined cookie sheet.
- When all of the cookies have been dunked, let the cookies cool completely until hardened, either on the counter or in the fridge.
- Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave then spoon into a piping bag fitted with a small open tip, or without a tip and just snip the end off.
- Pipe a drizzle of the white chocolate onto the top of each cookie, then sprinkle with the chocolate jimmies. Let harden before serving.
Notes
- Let the chocolate set before drizzling: Ensure that the chocolate is set before you add the white chocolate drizzle. If the cookies are warm, it will melt off the sides.
