Ingredients in Cookies and Cream Cake
Here's a look at the basic ingredients you need to make this Oreo cookie cake.
- White Cake Mix: Make sure to grab the box to make two layers. You can also experiment with other cake mix flavors such as yellow, vanilla, chocolate of any kind, or red velvet. Don't forget about Rainbow Chip or Confetti Cakes that might be available in some areas as well.
- Oil, Eggs, and Water: Basic baking ingredients needed to prepare your cake.
- Cream-Filled Cookies: For true cookies and cream cake use Classic Oreo cookies. You can also experiment with other Oreo flavors, such as Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos, or Double Stuff Oreos.
- Butter, Milk, and Salt: Blended together make the best frosting.
- Vanilla Extract: Vanilla is a universal crowd-pleaser but feel free to add almond, coconut, peppermint, banana, orange, or rum extract instead for different flavor profiles.
- Powdered or Icing Sugar: Necessary for making a creamy smooth frosting.
See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.
Substitutions and Variations
Don't have the correct ingredients on hand? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this Oreo Bundt Cake.
- Go Nuts: Add your favorite chopped nuts like peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, or walnuts to give your cake added crunch and flavor.
- Use Store-bought Frosting Instead: A little trick to know with store-bought icing or frosting that will make it taste homemade is to whip it in your stand mixer or using your handheld. Add two to three tablespoons of softened butter and a teaspoon or so of vanilla until you are satisfied with the taste.
- Add Food Coloring: Add food coloring, liquid or gel, to your icing or frosting, or even to the cake itself. This is a great way to color your cake to coordinate with a holiday or special occasion.
- Sparkles and Sprinkles: An easy way to add lots of color to your cake at any time of the year. So many different colors, so little time. Depending on the reason for the cake you might want to be festive or not!
- Make Homemade Cake: Skip the box mix and make a homemade cake instead. Have a look at our Easy Vanilla Bundt Cake or this Red Velvet Swirl Bundt Cake. Both will work great with Oreos or any other cream-filled cookie chopped inside.
- Garnish for Serving: Use a mix of mini Oreos, chopped Oreos, chocolate chips, or chunks, either placed or scattered randomly over the surface of your cake, as well as some chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, or ice cream.
How to Make Oreo Cookie Cake
Since we're using a box mix this cake goes together pretty quickly. Here's an overview of the instructions. You can find the full details in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Step 1: Bake the Oreo Cake
- Combine the cake mix, oil, eggs, and water in a large mixing bowl.
- Beat on low and then medium for a few minutes until fully incorporated.
- Add the crumbled Oreo cookies to the cake batter.
- Gently fold the cookies into the cake batter.
- Pour the cake batter into your bundt pan prepared with butter and flour.
- Bake the cake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes or a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool slightly and then place a rack on top of the bundt pan and flip it over. Allow it to cool completely.
Step 2: Make the Frosting
Here's how to make the frosting to completely cover your cake. There are some other options in the recipe card if you prefer to make a glaze that's drizzled over the cake rather than spread!
- Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
- Blend them together on low speed until smooth.
Step 3: Frost and Decorate the Cake

Storage
Storing your Oreo cookie cake properly will ensure that it stays fresh and delicious for as long as possible. Here are some tips for storing your cake:
Leftovers: Store your Oreo Bundt Cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Allow your cake to cool completely and store the unfrosted cake in plastic wrap. Make sure it's wrapped well to keep the cake from drying out and becoming freezer burnt. Place it in an airtight container or resealable freezer bag before putting it in the freezer for up to three months. You can also wrap individual slices or pieces of frosted cake and store them in the freezer to enjoy later on.
When you're ready to enjoy your frozen Oreo cookie cake, simply remove it from the freezer and allow it to thaw at room temperature for several hours. Once it's thawed, it should be just as delicious as when you first made it and ready to frost it if it's unfrosted.

FAQ
All you need are EQUAL parts of all-purpose flour, vegetable shortening, and vegetable oil. It is shelf-stable and works great! Combine the oil, shortening, and flour together in a small bowl. With a hand mixer or even a fork, blend until the mixture looks smooth and creamy. Using a spatula, scrape out the bowl and place it in a jar or a container with a lid. You can store it on the shelf for up to three months or in the fridge for longer. To apply, use a paper towel or a pastry brush and generously coat the inside of your cake pan. you are using for your baking.
Bundt cakes have a reputation for sticking to the inside of the pan they were baked in. Non-stick pans do work but as they age become much less reliable, even if properly taken care of. I suggest using shortening and then flour, NOT butter, to reduce the possibility of damaging your cake while attempting to remove it from the pan. Believe it or not but, butter can make the cake stick and sometimes act as an adhesive between the cake and the bundt pan. Regardless, by thoroughly greasing and then flouring your pan you will eliminate any potential disasters or headaches with your cake.
I love using a pan-coating product like Wilton’s Cake Release.
It's always a good idea to buy a nonstick cake pan. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a pan but I wouldn't buy the cheapest out there either!
I like this Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Bakeware Fluted Cake Pan and this Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Heritage Bundt Pan I bought recently because I loved the shape. It's so different and definitely spectacular looking!
