A Salted Nut Roll Shot was made for peanut butter and caramel lovers! It’s sweet with salty notes that go down nice and smooth. This nutty drink is one of my favorite RumChata shooters. Who knew it would be the perfect match for peanut butter whiskey?

The name of this shot comes from the famous Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll candy bar! This recipe takes inspiration from flavors like peanut butter whiskey for the salted peanuts and vanilla vodka for vanilla nougat. It captures the essence wonderfully.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • It’s only 3 ingredients: This salty nut shot is made with 3 common alcohols that you can find at any liquor store any time you like. I don’t drink much, but I like to keep bottles of my favorites on hand, and they last me a while.
    • It’s easy to customize: Shot recipes like this one are super easy to make your own, so don’t be afraid to get creative. You may add or swap flavors to create a whole new experience.
    • It’s perfect for a party: I feel like this drink is fitting for a party or some type of celebration. It feels a little fancy but has a delectable dessert taste.

    Ingredients

These are the 3 ingredients plus garnishes needed to make this salty nut shot recipe. It couldn’t be easier (or tastier)!

Ingredients for salted nut roll shot on a table.
    • Peanut butter whiskey: I use Screwball peanut butter whiskey for this shot. It has a nutty aroma and the subtle flavor of peanut butter that plays well with the other liquors.
    • Vanilla vodka: This adds a flavor that is reminiscent of the vanilla nougat in a salted nut roll candy bar. It has a subtle sweetness but still packs a punch.
    • RumChata: If you’re looking for creaminess, it comes from RumChata. It has coconut rum and delicious cinnamon and vanilla flavors that tie everything together.
    • Caramel and sea salt: I add these to the rim of the shot glass for salted caramel flavor. It’s optional but enhances the experience and appearance.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Butterscotch: Use butterscotch Schnapps in place of the vanilla vodka for a saltier taste.
    • Mocha: Try this recipe with cocoa liqueur in place of vanilla vodka and a shot of espresso to make a chocolatey version.
    • Coconut: Make this salted nut shot with coconut rum instead of peanut butter whiskey for a tropical twist.

How to Make a Salted Nut Roll Shot

Below are the steps needed to make and serve a salty nut roll shot. It’s as simple as measure, shake, and pour!

Whisky being poured over ice in a shaker.

Step 1: Add ice and whiskey. Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add the peanut butter whiskey.

Rum added into the whisky and ice in the shaker.

Step 2: Add vodka and RumChata. Pour in the vanilla vodka and RumChata. Cover and shake to combine your ingredients.

Completed drink being poured into a shot glass with a caramel sauce and flaky sea salt rim.

Step 3: Decorate the rim and pour. Dip the rim of the shot glass in caramel sauce and flaky sea salt. Pour the shot into the glass.

Step 4: Serve. Drink and enjoy!

    Recipe Tips

    • Storage directions: There aren’t real storage options for this nutty drink unless you make a batch of them. Store in the refrigerator and consume it within 24 hours of making it.
    • Serve immediately: The ingredients may start to separate or warm up if you leave them sitting too long. Make the shots on demand and drink them right away for the best flavor.
    • Chill the ingredients: I like to keep the ingredients in the refrigerator until I’m ready to use them to keep the shot extra cold. It goes down so smoothly!

    Recipe FAQs

What can I use instead of a cocktail shaker?

A mason jar and fine mesh strainer would be amazing in a pinch. Just shake the ingredients with ice in the closed jar and then pour them through the strainer and into the glass.

Can I make a large batch?

Sure! Just ensure that you use it quickly. Measure out multiple shots and pour them into a pitcher.

Can I skip or use different garnishes?

Of course. You can always be creative and make recipes your own. Use peanut butter instead of caramel, for example, or do not worry about it altogether. The choice is yours!
