    • Key Lime Pie Shot

This key lime pie shot with Rumchata is one of my all-time favorites. It has the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors, for a delightfully delicious experience. I coat the rim of the glass with crushed graham crackers to mimic the crust of a key lime pie.

Why You’ll Love This Key Lime Shot Recipe

    • It has an authentic lime flavor: I use real key lime juice in this key lime pie drink to give it a lime curd flavor.
    • It’s a crowd-pleaser: Serve this drink at your next social gathering, and you’ll be sure to impress your guests.
    • It’s easy to make: This shot comes together in minutes, making it perfect for a last-minute party drink or quick treat.

    Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this easy key lime shot recipe. Since the alcohol isn’t seasonal, you can make this recipe year round.

Ingredients for key lime pie shots arranged on a dark surface.
    • Whipped cream vodka: I find that this is key in achieving the correct flavor. However, vanilla vodka will work in a pinch if you don’t have it or can’t find it.
    • Rumchata: This rum liqueur is creamy with a subtle sweet flavor. It’s so good that I like to drink it alone! It adds the perfect taste to this shot.
    • Lime: I add key lime juice with the alcohol ,and use extra to add the graham cracker rim. Use some lime zest and lime slices as garnishes for flair.
    • Graham cracker crumbs: I like classic honey graham crackers because they taste more like a graham cracker crust. Just add them to a food processor to create fine crumbs.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Lemon: Try this recipe with lemon juice instead of lime. It tastes like a lemon meringue pie!
    • Non-alcoholic: Want to skip the alcohol? Make this key lime shot using coconut milk and sweetened condensed milk instead.
    • Coconut: Try this recipe with a dash of coconut rum to give it delicious tropical vibes.

How to Make a Key Lime Shot

Here are the instructions on how to make this key lime cocktail shot. Before you mix the drink, pour some key lime juice into a shallow plate. Dip the shot glass in the juice and then into the graham cracker crumbs. This will give you the perfect graham cracker rim!

    Recipe Tips

    • Chill the ingredients: I like to store the ingredients in the refrigerator before making this key lime pie drink. It tastes much better chilled!
    • Make a large batch in advance:  Simply measure extra ingredients to prepare a big batch for a crowd. Store it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving, and be sure to discard any leftovers.
    • Step up the presentation: Top each shot with a sprinkle of fresh lime zest, a dollop of whipped cream, and a pinch of graham cracker crumbs for an extra touch.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make the shot stronger?

Sure! Add more of one of the liquors and a little less lime juice to make it stronger. I like it on the sweeter side, so the ratios are perfect for me!

Can I use regular lime juice?

Yes. I prefer key lime juice so it tastes more like a classic key lime pie, but regular lime juice is still delicious in this recipe.

What do I use if I don’t have a cocktail shaker?

A simple mason jar will do just fine! Any bottle or container with a tight lid will do the trick to shake up your ingredients.
