The irresistible Butterfinger shot is a creamy, chocolatey concoction that's creamy and buttery, and a perfect addition to your party or sipped as an after-dinner treat. It's inspired by the popular Butterfinger candy bar with the flavors of butterscotch, coffee, and Irish cream flavors.

This unique cocktail was inspired by this smoked old-fashioned drink that I just love. My orange gin and tonic is a bit of a spin on the ever favorite original. This chocolate mojito with mint is also a quite tasty drink that you're sure to love.

Why You Will Love This Butterfinger Shot

    • Simple But impressive! It's easy to make and perfect for parties.
    • Tastes Just Like the Candy Bar. Using an exact combination of ingredients to mimic this popular candy.
    • All-Occasion Cocktail. The candy-inspired taste of Butterfinger shots makes them a wonderful party drink and conversation starter or an ideal after-dinner sweet treat for any occasion.

    Ingredients

This rich, delicious, chocolate and peanut butter-flavored cocktail only takes a handful of simple ingredients to make, and you can find them pretty much anywhere.

Individual ingredients for Butterfinger shots in containers on table.
    • Kahlua: This coffee-flavored liqueur adds a rich depth to your shot.
    • Butterscotch Schnapps: Butterscotch gives this Butterfinger shot its distinctive candy bar flavor.
    • Bailey's Irish Cream: Adds creaminess, a touch of whiskey flavor, and richness.
    • Garnish: Chocolate, butterscotch, or caramel syrup along with butterfinger candy bars or crushed peanuts work great to garnish the rim of the glasses.

The full ingredient list and quantities of each one are in the recipe card.

    Substitutions and Variations

Don't have the correct ingredients on hand? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change these Butterfinger shots.

    • Kahlua: You can use Tia Maria or any other coffee liqueur.
    • Peanut Butter Liqueur: Try another nutty liqueur like Skrewball peanut butter whiskey to create a unique and flavorful twist on a shot.
    • Shake It: Instead of layering, add the ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Give it a good shake and then strain the mixture into the prepared shot glass.

    How to Make Butterfinger Shots

This decadent cocktail is as easy as it is delicious. It only takes a few minutes and a few simple steps, and you'll have delicious cocktails that everyone will be clamoring for.

The recipe highlights are listed here, but you can find the exact instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.

⭐️ Hint: Easily alter the proportions of the ingredients to suit your taste. If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, use a bit more Kahlúa. If you have a sweet tooth, increase the amount of butterscotch schnapps.

If you love recipes like this, you may also enjoy my Kahlua hot chocolate and this key lime pie shot. My breakfast shot is also really good. It's a great way to start the day.

Check out this Sweet Tart shot and my Three Wise Men shot if recipes like this speak to you. This baby beer shot is also worth trying, it's really cute.

What to Serve with Butterfinger Shots

Add Some Toppings: Consider some whipped cream on top for a creamy finish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon for an extra kick, and some finely grated chocolate or caramel drizzle for added sweetness.

    • Grazing boards with dips or spreads, cheeses, cured meats, spicy pickles, and crackers work well with these shots.
    • Fried foods also work well. Try fried potato skins, onion rings, or deep-fried pickles.
    • Healthier options include a vegetable tray with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables along with some garlic hummus and buffalo chicken spinach dip.
    • Party appetizers like air fryer Buffalo chicken wings, fajita nachos, and the like work well with these shots, as well.

    Tips

    • Serve immediately. This recipe makes a single shot and looks best served right away!
    • Adjustable flavor. You can use more or less of any of the liqueurs to create a drink to suit your taste.
    • Use good-quality butterscotch schnapps, like DeKuyper or Hiram Walker, for the best flavor.
    • Chill ahead of time. Be sure all the ingredients are chilled before making the shot.
    • Garnish the glass: It adds an attractive and festive finish to the glass and enhances the flavor of the drink.

This shot pairs well with my Irish cream cake. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

    FAQ

Do you have questions about Butterfinger shots? Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about this Butterfinger shot recipe.

    Can I make it non-alcoholic?

Yes, you can make a non-alcoholic version by substituting the alcoholic ingredients with flavored syrups and cream, such as butterscotch syrup, chocolate syrup, and heavy cream.

Can I serve it as a cocktail instead of a shot?

Absolutely! To serve it as a cocktail, simply increase the quantities of the ingredients and serve it in a larger glass.
