My Grandma’s Bacon Cheeseburger Pie is exactly like a bacon cheeseburger in a pie crust! Ketchup, mustard, relish, bacon, ground meat, and lots of cheese! It's a hearty and delicious meal that is a true crowd-pleaser for meals!
My favorite meal on earth used to be my Grandma’s Bacon Cheeseburger Pie. I remember how excited I used to get watching her make it and watching it brown in the oven.
The flavors in my Grandma’s Bacon Cheeseburger Pie that are added to the ground meat make each slice taste and feel like a bacon cheeseburger. You can easily add more of your favorite burger toppings for serving! It's a fun way to let everyone add their own toppings.
This recipe can easily feed a crowd or just a few, depending on the size of your slices, and don't forget many will want seconds! I always found that one pie was not enough and with two pies I always had leftovers which are even better the second time around.

Why You Will Love This Cheeseburger Pie Recipe
- Versatile: This cheeseburger pie works with homemade pie crust, refrigerated pie crust, or crescent rolls. My grandmother made her own pie crust and later crescent rolls but ever since store-bought pie crust dough came along I've always used it.
- Great Flavor: It's basically a hamburger pot pie but with all the flavors of a juicy bacon cheeseburger.
- Budget-Friendly: Ground meat makes a simple way to cook up satisfying and delicious meals with less money. It's the ultimate ingredient to stretch meals to feed more bellies without spending more money.
Ingredients
- Ground Meat: Ground beef is the classic cheeseburger meat. But really it works with any combination of meat including ground pork or ground turkey. You can even use a blend if you want.
- Onion: Cooked with the ground meat giving it more depth of flavor.
- Bacon: You can use any type of bacon you love!
- Ketchup, Mustard, & Relish: Added to the burger mixture giving it those classic burger flavors.
- Seasoning: All you need is some oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Refrigerated Pie Crust: Choose your favorite brand. Just make sure it has two sheets -- one for the top and the bottom.
- Cheese: We're using a combination of shredded cheese and American cheese slices for extra cheesiness!
See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.
Variations
- Spicy: If you like your burgers with a spicy kick, add some chopped fresh or pickled jalapenos to the ground beef mixture. For a quick shortcut you can also use some of this jalapeno powder instead.
- Skip the bacon: Turn this into a classic cheeseburger pie by skipping the bacon.
- Dairy-free: Leave out the cheese or replace it with your favorite dairy-free cheese.
- Gluten-free: Use a gluten-free pie crust.
How to Make Cheeseburger Pie
Here's a look at the simple steps to make this bacon cheeseburger pie for dinner.
Step 1: Cook the bacon in a large skillet until almost crisp. Remove it from the pan and allow it to drain.
Step 2: Wipe out your skillet and cook the ground beef with the onion until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are tender.
Pro Tip: Drain off any excess grease if necessary. You may or may not need to do this depending on the fat content of the ground meat you use.
Step 3: Add the ketchup, mustard, relish, cooked bacon, salt, oregano, pepper, and two cups of shredded cheese.
Step 4: Mix everything together until it's well blended.
Step 5: Place the crust on your pie plate. Make sure all of your edges reach or hang over the side of your pie plate.
Step 6: Dump the beef mixture into the shell.
Step 7: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese all over the top of the pie.
Step 8: Top with the cheese slices.
Step 9: Cover the top of the pie with the second pie crust. Wrap extra top crust underneath the bottom crust and press edges together so your pie is all sealed. Pinch all around the edges with your thumb and forefinger to make a decorative edge. Cut slits in the dough to allow the heat to escape.
Step 10: Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the pie from the oven and cover the entire edge of your pie with tinfoil to prevent burning. Bake for 20-30 more minutes. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve and enjoy!
⭐️ Hint: Remove the pie crust from the fridge for a bit before working with it. It is easier to handle when it warms up a bit.

Storage
Store Leftovers: Wrap them well or transfer them to an air-tight container and store them in the fridge for up to four days or in the freezer for up to three months.
Reheat: For best results reheat in the oven. Place in a baking dish and cover with foil. Heat at 350° F until heated through. You can also reheat individual slices in the microwave but the crust won't be as crisp. If frozen, thaw them out in the fridge overnight before reheating.
Serving Suggestions
I enjoy corn with this beef pie! Try Slow Cooker Corn on the Cob or Air Fryer Corn on the Cob for an easy side dish.
Enjoy it with fries for a classic burger pairing! Try some Frozen Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer or these Air Fryer Steak Fries!
A salad or simple vegetable also works well as a side for a bit of color and to complete your meal. Try this Broccoli Crunch Salad or Skillet Broccoli!
Recipe Tips
- Drain Off Any Grease. For best results if your meat has a lot of grease after cooking you should drain it before finishing the filling.
- Cover With Foil. This keeps the crust from becoming overly brown when cooked in the oven.
- Let It Rest. This gives the juices time to soak back into the meat. It will taste better but also be easier to cut.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, of course! Feel free to add on some shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pickles as well as some extra burger sauces like my homemade Big Mac sauce.
Yes, my Grandma used to do this! Roll them out flat and press them into the pie plate to form a shell and then to make the top crust. It won't look as pretty but it will taste great!

Easy Bacon Cheeseburger Pie
Equipment
- pie plate
Ingredients
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Cook bacon in a large skillet until almost crisp. Set aside on a paper towel lined plate. Wipe out your skillet. In the same skillet cook ground beef and onions until meat is no longer pink and onions are tender. Drain if necessary. Add ketchup, mustard, relish, cooked bacon, salt, oregano, pepper and 2 cups of cheese. Stir until blended.
- Open one package of your pie crust and form your pie shell. Make sure all of your edges reach or hangover the side of your pie plate.
- Dump beef mixture into shell. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup of cheese all over the top of the pie and then spread cheese slices on top.
- Cover top of pie with second pie crust. Wrap extra top crust underneath bottom crust and press edges together so your pie is all sealed. Pinch all around the edges with your thumb and forefinger to make a nice edge or flute.
- Cut slits in the top of your pie, in a sort of star pattern, starting in the center of your pie. Four or five slits will do to allow heat to escape. Use a sharp knife and only cut through the dough. You don't need to cut into the meat or filling.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Remove pie from oven and cover the entire edge of your pie with tinfoil to prevent burning. Bake for 20-30 more minutes. I have even left the pie in the oven for an additional 5 more minutes to brown the top crust even more while at my friends house. This pie is ready once the crust is nicely browned.
- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve and enjoy!

The flavor was 5 star. I used pre-baked shells I thawed. Had quite a time with half of the top crust as it was stuck to the aluminum pan . 1/2 of it was perfect & beautiful, the other half a hot mess. Not sure if I should of left frozen or what. Will make again, not sure if I will add a too crust or not. Flavor was really good.

Next time simply spray the lid/cover or foil with cooking spray so the top crust doesn’t stick! Don’t not include it and don’t cook from frozen. If you try this pie again cooking spray will solve your sticking problem. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. We had a family emergency and I forgot I had a blog. Thank you for being with me on my food journey. All the best. Karin
