Air fried corn on the cob is fast and easy way to cook this summer favorite. So tasty, this great side dish is ideal for grill nights or any night of the week!
I love corn on the cob. A few years ago my husband and I took a road trip down in Florida, along the way we stopped at many local farm stands as it was prime fresh produce season in the south. We stopped at a roadside stand, purchased the corn on the cob that had just been picked.
Once we arrived at our Airbnb to stay for the week in Florida, I just couldn't wait to dig into the fresh corn on the cob. I debated about roasting the corn but I decided that I just couldn't wait that long. When I looked through the cabinets and found an air fryer stashed at the back! I felt like I had struck gold!
I knew right away that I would air fry the corn. It was fresh and in season, and it was not going to be roasted over an open fire. I wanted it to be fast, crispy and delicious!
We made a feast of this side with shrimp, grilled vegetables and steak on the grill. This was the perfect bite to add to our meal as corn is always so tasty! And, we didn't have to take up precious grill space while we were grilling because the corn was in the air fryer cooking away.
This is my kind of cooking! Fast, easy and tastes heavenly!
The corn turned out so flavorful and juicy. I devoured my cob in seconds and went for another cob! It was so tasty, that even once we got home I made them again in my air fryer at home!
Why cook corn in the air fryer
It's fast and easy, and the results are delicious. That said, cooking corn in the air fryer is not the same as grilling it on an outdoor barbecue this summer. It can't capture that smoky flavor you get when something is barbecued or smoked. But it's still delicious just the same!
There's nothing to it! All you do is shuck your corn, trim the ends and rub the kernels with oil or butter, salt and pepper or seasonings of your choice Then pop it in the air fryer and cook!
The best part about cooking corn in the air fryer is that there are no dishes to wash-just empty out your basket after!
What makes air fried corn on the cob delicious
The air fryer adds a light crisp to the corn and cooks it perfectly! The butter or oil that you use can make loads of difference in the flavor as well. Try a different type of oil each time so you can see what your favorite is.
How to pick fresh and ripe corn
When farmers markets are in season, I always pick through the corn on offer. Look for plump cobs with husks that come off easily and a creamy yellowish color inside the kernels. Avoid green, dry or brittle looking ears as they probably won't be as sweet and tasty when cooked.
How to store fresh corn on cob
Once you get your fresh corn at home, husk it and store in the fridge without standing it up vertically. You'll want to keep the cob flat so as not to bruise the kernels which can make them lose their flavor. Wrap with a damp paper towel or newspaper for two days if it will be longer than that before you are ready to cook it.
What is difference between white, yellow and bi-color corn
A yellow corn cob will have pale kernels with a golden brown outside. It's the most widely available type of corn and is sweeter than white corn varieties, which are grown for canning. bi-color cobs are yellow and white kernels on the same cob, commonly known as sweet corn.
This variety has twice the sugar content as yellow or white corn. My favorite is by far bi color corn. I love the sweet taste of bi color corn.
How do I shuck corn
I find the best way to shuck corn is to either use a knife or your hands to remove the bottom stem of the corn cob. Once you have the stem removed, shave off any hairs with a scissor.
Then run your fingers along the corn to loosen the husk from the cob. Carefully pull back the husk and remove it all together. You should now have just a naked corn cob ready for cooking!
Air fry with or without the shuck
For this recipe, we are air frying without the shuck. The shuck can burn and make your corn taste bitter in the air fryer.
