These easy indoor S'mores dessert recipes are as simple as they are delicious. From classic S'mores in the air fryer to S'mores oven recipes like bars and bites, these are instant classics.

Four different pictures of different s'mores recipes.

Like almost everyone, I fell in love with S'Mores when I was a little girl. That classic campfire treat of chocolate and marshmallows sandwiched between two graham crackers was just about the best thing I'd ever had.

I loved going camping or attending parties with any kind of outdoor fire because I knew that S'Mores would almost always be on the menu. Now that I'm older, I see no reason to wait for summer or good weather. I can make all the S'Mores deliciousness I want right in the house. And so can you!

    History of S'Mores

S'Mores are a type of sandwich cookie made with milk chocolate squares and toasted marshmallows sandwiched between graham crackers. We all know that. However, a lot of people don't know much more than that.

S'Mores have been around for at least 100 years. Many believe that the sweet treat was an attempt to make a homemade version of a Mallomar or Moon Pie, both of which were introduced in the 1910s.

In the early 1920s, a cookbook featured a recipe for what was called a "Graham Cracker Sandwich" - what we know today as a S'More. Interestingly enough, the text of the recipe made reference to both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts enjoying the treat even at that time.

These classic camping treats were first mentioned in a 1927 edition of the Girl Scout manual, Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. In that book, they were called Some Mores.

The first mention of the iconic contraction of that name, S'Mores pops up in a 1938 guide called Recreational Programs for Summer Camps.

    Why are S'Mores so popular?

Flavor is the first reason, of course. The classic combination of mellow, yet sweet graham cracker with milk chocolate and toasted marshmallow is one that will never ever go out of style.

Nostalgia is also another reason. When you bite into a S'More, you don't just get a mouthful of sweet flavors. You get a sweet trip down memory lane, as well. S'Mores are associated with all kinds of wonderful childhood memories for most people.

This tasty snack has also become the poster child, er, treat for summer get-togethers with family and friends. So there's a major interactive element that keeps S'Mores so popular, as well.
