Why You'll Love This Recipe
- It's a no-cooking recipe: This cowboy dip recipe doesn't require an oven or any cooking. Just prepare and combine the ingredients, and it's ready to serve.
- It's budget-friendly: I love that this is an affordable appetizer, too. The components are cheap, and I typically have many of them on hand.
- It's quick to make: It takes just a few minutes for this cowboy crack recipe to come together.
Ingredients
These components are what make this cowboy crack dip recipe amazing. It utilizes common kitchen ingredients to create a highly addictive appetizer..

- Cream cheese: Allow the cream cheese to sit on the counter for at least 30 minutes to soften. Cold cream cheese is harder to work with, and you will be left with lots of lumps. Feel free to use low-fat if you like!
- Jalapenos: Fresh jalapenos add a little texture and the perfect zing of spice to the dip. I dice them pretty small so you don't end up with large chunks.
- Ranch seasoning: This is key in this recipe! The spices and dill flavor complement the other ingredients, keeping the dip's flavor from leaning too salty.
- Cheese: I use a combination of shredded cheddar and mozzarella for this, but you can use any variety you prefer. I find that pre-packaged is fine here because it's a cold dip, so you can save some steps and skip shredding it yourself.
- Bacon: You can cook the bacon fresh and then crumble it or use leftover bacon. I find that real bacon bits work in a pinch as well, but the strips are always superior because then you get larger, crunchy pieces of bacon!
- Green onion: This adds another pop of freshness to the dip. It's one of my favorite parts because the bits of onion taste so good with the bacon and cheese flavors.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Add corn: Turn this into crack corn dip by stirring in some sweet corn. A drained can of corn is easiest, or you can use leftover corn on the cob.
- Extra spicy: Keep the seeds and membranes on the jalapenos to add more heat. You can also add a dash of your favorite hot sauce!
- Meatless: Skip the bacon to make this dip vegetarian-friendly!
How to Make Cowboy Crack Dip
In just two steps, you will have a delectable cowboy dip with cream cheese. Just mix it and then enjoy!

Step 1: Combine the ingredients. Add all of the ingredients of this crack dip to a large bowl, and stir until it's well mixed.

Step 2: Garnish and serve. Top it with extra bacon, shredded cheese, and green onions. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Storage directions: Store your dip covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also transfer the leftovers to an airtight container.
- Chill for better flavor: I like to stick it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour before serving it. This allows all the flavors to meld together for a better experience.
- Prepare it in advance: If you want, you can prepare this cowboy dip with cream cheese 24 hours ahead of time. Separation is normal, so give it a good stir before adding the garnishes.

Recipe FAQs
Removing the seeds and membranes from the jalapeno helps, or you can omit it altogether if you don't tolerate spice well.
No, this will ruin the texture and consistency of the dip. It's quick and easy to make fresh, anyway!
If you want a thinner consistency, add a splash of milk or a little more sour cream. Start with a small amount until you reach your desired thickness.

- 1 jalapeno diced
- 1 pkg. (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese reserve 1 tablespoon for the garnish
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

- 2 stalks green onions sliced reserve 1 tablespoon for the garnish
Instructions
- To a bowl add all the ingredients. Mix until combined.

Notes
- I highly recommend chilling the dip before serving it to allow the flavors to meld together so it tastes even better.
- Add a splash of milk or a little more sour cream if the dip is too thick for your preference.
- Avoid freezing the dip as it will separate and become watery as it thaws.
