One of my favorite party recipes to make is Buffalo chicken. You pair that with some chips, and you've got a movie night or game day winner. So I decided to put the dip and chips together in these delicious, crispy cups.

    Buffalo Chicken Wonton Recipe

These bite sized buffalo wonton cups were inspired by my other buffalo chicken dip recipe and smoked buffalo chicken dip recipe on this site. It pairs well with these amazing air fryer pita chip, oven-baked pita chips, and bagel chip recipes.

Why You Will Love this Recipe

    • It's quick and easy.
    • It's full of creamy Buffalo chicken dip in perfectly crunchy wonton cups.
    • It makes a great party appetizer or snack.
    • It's easy to make it your own with different spices and ingredients.
    • It's a super versatile recipe you can serve hot or cold.
    • It looks so much fancier than it actually is!
    • It's great for potlucks and parties.

    Top Tip:

Make sure you coat every part of your wontons with oil so they crisp and brown evenly.

    Ingredients

It only takes a few simple ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store to make this recipe. Be sure to check the recipe card at the end of the post for exact amounts.

    • Cream cheese
    • Buffalo sauce
    • Red pepper flakes
    • Garlic powder
    • Smoked paprika
    • Dried parsley
    • cooked chicken
    • Vegetable oil
    • Wonton wrappers

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Add Peppers - Try adding diced bell or banana peppers.
    • Add Vegetables - Dice vegetables like artichoke hearts, celery, olives, corn, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes,
    • Cream Cheese - Use sour cream, greek yogurt, or mascarpone cheese instead.
    • Buffalo Sauce - Make homemade simmering with a whisk for less than ten minutes over medium heat, ¼ cup butter, ½ cup hot sauce, tablespoon vinegar, teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 2 teaspoons garlic, and ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper instead.
    • Garlic Powder - Use minced garlic, garlic flakes, dehydrated garlic, freshly minced or roasted garlic instead.
    • Smoked Paprika - Regular paprika if you don't have smoked.
    • Dried Parsley - Use dried or fresh oregano, chives, scallions, basil and even cilantro. Use your favorite spice and add a little at first. Taste your mixture as you go.
    • Chicken - Use shredded pork, turkey, beef, lamb, jackfruit, or tofu. I've also used diced grilled chicken strips and loved the results as well.
    • Vegetable oil - If you do not have vegetable oil you can use canola oil, olive oil or whatever oil you have handy instead.
    • Wonton Wrappers - Use spring roll or egg roll wrappers instead, just reduce size.
    • Add Cheese Inside and Out - Add a pinch of cheddar cheese, parmesan, pepper jack, or your favorite cheese on top or top mixture before baking.
    • Spicy - Add an extra teaspoon of chili pepper flakes, jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder to the chicken mixture to imbue heat into the dish. I will also occasionally add an extra teaspoon of our homemade hot pepper sauce, or our favorite hot sauce, to the chicken mixture before baking.

    Instructions

This is an exceptionally easy appetizer recipe. It only takes a few minutes, and you're all done! The highlights are here, but you'll find the exact instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.

    Storage

Refrigerator: Store for up to 3 days in an air-tight container.

Freezer: You can freeze the Buffalo chicken mixture for up to 2 months, then defrost it, fill your cups, and bak.

Make Ahead: You can make this Buffalo chicken wonton cup recipe a day in advance and then heat it up in the air fryer.

Reheat: Reheat in an air fryer for about 4 minutes at 390 degrees.

What to Serve with Buffalo Chicken Cups

    • Try blue cheese, feta, or goat cheese crumbles.
    • Sliced Green Onions
    • Creamy ranch dressing, Buffalo Ranch Sauce, Avocado Ranch Sauce, BBQ sauce, or any of these wonderful dips.
    • Pico de gallo, tomato salsa or smoked salsa
    • Guacamole or smoked guacamole
    • Avocado sliced or mashed
    • Bacon bits
    • Caramelized onion
    • Roasted or toasted cashews, almonds, walnuts and pecans

    Tips

    • It is important to make sure the exposed portion of the wrappers is brushed with oil. If they aren’t brushed with oil, they will not crisp up.
    • Make sure to use room-temperature cream cheese for the filling so that it’s easy to mix with the buffalo sauce and other ingredients.
    • Use a hand mixer when making the filling, as this will ensure that everything is evenly blended and there are no lumps of cream cheese left in the mixture.
    • Line your mini muffin tin with wonton wrappers carefully – they should fit snugly into each cup so that they don’t come undone while baking.
    • Serve warm - these taste best right out of the oven, so enjoy them while they’re still hot!
