These peanut butter cup Rice Krispies treats take the classic treat to a totally new level. Loaded with delicious Reese’s Pieces and Peanut Butter cups, these treats are peanut butter and chocolate lover’s dream.

There are two sweet treats that I really love – peanut butter cups and Rice Krispies treats. So I thought it would be a great idea to put them together. Guess what? I was right!

    Reese’s Rice Krispies Treats

This was inspired by my other Rice Krispies treats recipe on this site. My peanut butter chocolate squares are full of chocolate, peanut butter, and Rice Krispies, so I knew this idea would work really well.

    Ingredients

It only takes six ingredients to make these delicious Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Stuffed Rice Krispie Treats treats. A quick trip down two aisles in the store, and you’ll be ready to make these tasty squares.

    • Rice Krispies cereal
    • Mini marshmallows
    • Creamy peanut butter
    • Butter
    • Reese’s Pieces
    • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

See the recipe card at the end of the post for quantities and cooking times.

    Instructions

Making these delicious peanut butter rice krispies treats is just as easy as shopping for the ingredients. In just a few easy steps and a few minutes, you’ll be all done!

    Step 1: Prep

Grease a 9×13 baking pan with butter or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2: Combine Cereal and Reese’s Pieces

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cereal and Reese’s Pieces and mix well.

Step 3: Make the Marshmallow Mixture

Add butter and marshmallows to a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until melted, stirring often. Once the mixture is melted, add the peanut butter.

Step 4: Mix the Cereal and Marshmallow

Pour the marshmallow and peanut butter mixture over the cereal mix and stir to combine.

Step 5: Add to the Baking Pan

Spoon the Rice Krispies treats mixture into the baking pan and spread it evenly.

Step 6: Add the Peanut Butter Cups and More Reese’s Pieces

Place the peanut butter cups on top of the mixture in rows of three and press them into the mix firmly. Add more Reese’s Pieces and press those firmly into the mixture, as well.

    Step 7: Let it Set

Let the mix set for at least two hours, then cut into 18 equal squares.

Hint: Be sure to pour the melted marshmallow mixture onto the cereal mixture immediately so it’s easier to mix.

    Substitutions

Don’t have the correct ingredients on hand? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this Reese’s Rice Krispies treats recipe.

    • Alternate Candies – I love the flavor of Reese’s the best, but you can use any generic peanut butter cups and peanut butter candies you happen to have on hand.
    • Generic Cereal – You can use any generic crisp rice cereal to make this recipe.
    • Marshmallows – If you don’t have mini marshmallows, you can melt full size marshmallows. Just be sure to mix often to prevent scorching.

    Variations

Want to personalize this peanut butter cup Rice Krispies treats recipe? Here are some of my tried and true tips for changing up this recipe.

    • Pretzel Bits – Crush up pretzels and add the bits to the mix for a tasty salty addition.
    • Roasted Peanuts – Add roasted peanuts for even more peanut flavor.

    Equipment

It takes next to no equipment to make this peanut butter rice krispies recipe. You’ll only need a scant few common kitchen items.

    • Measuring cups and spoons
    • Mixing bowl
    • Spoon
    • Saucepan
    • Baking dish

    Storage

You can keep these treats in an air-tight container at room temperature for about two days. You can also freeze them for up to six weeks.

    Tips

This is an exceedingly simple recipe, but there are a few things to remember that will make it even easier on you.

    • Remember to work fast. The key to thoroughly mixing your treats is to mix everything while it’s nice and hot – and THIN. If your mix begins to set up, it’s going to be difficult to mix.
    • Stir often when you’re melting your marshmallows. If left in one place on direct heat for too long, they’ll scorch.

    FAQ

Do you have questions about peanut butter cup Rice Krispies treats? Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about Reese’s Rice Krispies treats.

How long are Rice Krispies treats good?

They’ll last for about two days at room temperature or for six weeks in the freezer.

    How do I freeze these?

Place your treats square on a baking sheet and freeze them. Then, wrap them tightly in cling wrap and place them in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bags.

How do I thaw frozen Rice Krispies treats?

It’s so easy. Just take them out of the freezer and leave them on the counter for about an hour.

Why is it so hard to mix Rice Krispies treats?

This is a thick, gooey recipe to begin with, so it’s not a smooth process. However, if you’re really having a hard time, you might have let the mixture cool too much before mixing.

Why is my Rice Krispies treats so sticky and messy?

Rice Krispies treats are inherently gooey, but if yours are exceptionally sticky and difficult to cut into squares, you probably haven’t let them set long enough.
