What is the difference between candy melts and chocolate melts?
Candy melts are made from vegetable oil, sugar and other flavors. They don’t taste like chocolate, rather they have a sweeter candy-like flavor. However, chocolate melts are made from cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, sugar and sometimes lecithin.
They do taste like chocolate so the flavor is richer and more decadent than candy melts. They are more difficult to find in grocery stores so I usually order online or buy them at Michaels craft store when they have a sale on them.
How do I store these rice krispies treats
Store them in an airtight container for up to a week, but don’t expect them to last that long! In my house they just fly right out of the container by the end of day!
If you have a sweets loving family or you are taking these to a party you may want to consider doubling this recipe.
Can I freeze these rice krispie treats shaped like candy corn
Yes! You can freeze this candy corn rice krispies recipe for up to three months. Just make sure you store them in an airtight container and thaw before serving so they will be fresh and soft when eating.
Do these rice krispies treats have candy corn in them
No, this recipe does not use candy corn but rather I used the regular rice krispie cereal and melted some chocolate melts and sprinkles.

How to Make Candy Corn Shaped Rice Krispies Treats
- ¾ cup butter
- 20 ounces mini marshmallows
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 9 cups crispy rice cereal
- orange gel food coloring
- 2 (10 ounce) Ghirardelli white chocolate melting discs
- Yellow Sprinkles
How to Make Halloween Rice Krispies Treats
Grease a cookie sheet with butter or line with parchment paper.
Melt the butter and marshmallows in a large pan over medium heat. Mix until melted and smooth.
Stir in the vanilla extract and rice crispy cereal. Mix till all the cereal is evenly coated in the marshmallow.
Pour the hot mixture onto the cookie sheet and gently spread it out. Do not press down, just stretch the mixture to spread and gently use the back of a spatula to press smooth.
While still warm, cut the rice krispie mixture into big triangles with a large knife. While still warm, take each triangle and gently shape each one at a time. Be careful not to smash or press too firmly.
Pour yellow sprinkles into a medium bowl and set aside for later.
Next in a microwave safe bowl follow the directions on the package for melting only half the white candy melting discs. I highly recommend using Ghirardelli’s melting disks. They take longer to dry, but they don’t get hard if melted a little too long. Dip each triangle shaped krispie treat’s point-first into the white melt.
In a microwave safe bowl melt the remaining white melting discs. Stir in the orange food coloring gel. Add the coloring until you have the shade of orange you like. Stir completely to blend.
Then dip each krispie treat long side (not the point) first into the orange candy melt.
While the orange part is still wet, dip the very top of the treat into the bowl of the yellow sprinkles.
Replace each treat onto the cookie sheet to allow them to dry completely.

Notes:
- To clarify, the Ghirardelli white candy melting discs are not the chocolate melts.
- If these treats are squished down too much they will be thin, more dense, and hard. Think big, thick and light while spreading the mixture and only press lightly with a flat spatula to spread the mixture.
- When shaping the treats to keep the mixture from covering your hands, coat your hands in some butter and gently shape and spread the mixture. Again do not press too firmly.
This is one of my favorite Halloween rice krispies treats ideas. This is a creative, fun and festive way to celebrate Halloween. You can take these candy corn rice krispies to Halloween parties, classroom parties, or just make a batch for your family to enjoy.
I hope you enjoy this recipe and share it with your friends.
