- It’s budget-friendly: The ingredients used in this churro snack mix recipe are affordable even on the tightest budget. It consists of foods like cereal that can be used for breakfast and staples like butter and sugar that you likely purchase regularly anyway!
- It’s easy to increase: Double or even triple the batch to ensure you have plenty of snack mix to share with family or serve as an easy to eat appetizer at a party.
Ingredients
Below are all the components I used to make this cinnamon sugar snack mix! I love the combination of sweet and salty to balance the sugary cinnamon flavor.

- Cereal: I use Rice Chex and Cinnamon Toast Crunch in this recipe. The Chex is a classic ingredient for snack mixes, and all the other cereals are coated in cinnamon sugar, enhancing the churro flavor.
- Teddy Grahams: The cinnamon-flavored Teddy Grahams also help add to the churro vibe. If you can’t find it, the classic honey will work in a pinch.
- Pretzel sticks: The salty flavor and crispy texture are a great contrast to the sweeter elements in this snack mix recipe. You may use small pretzel twists if you prefer.
- Butter: This mixes with the cinnamon and sugar to create a coating that sticks to the cereal, graham crackers, and pretzels as it cools and sets. Feel free to use salted or unsalted butter.
- Sugar: I keep it simple and use white granulated sugar as the sweetener. It pairs well with the cinnamon and melts easily with the butter.
- Cinnamon: You can’t have a churro snack mix without ground cinnamon! Add more or less according to your taste. Sometimes, I’ll add a pinch or two more to take it up a notch.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Add nuts: Incorporate some chopped peanuts or pecans for extra crunch and salt.
- Chocolate: Try a chocolate cereal like Cocoa Puffs in place of the Chex to add a chocolatey flavor to complement the cinnamon.
- Spice: Sprinkle in a pinch of cayenne pepper to add a tiny touch of heat to balance the sweetness.
- Brown sugar: Swap the white sugar for brown sugar. It will add depth to the snack mix because of the molasses.
How to Make Churro-Flavored Snack Mix
Here are the instructions needed to make this cinnamon snack mix recipe. Preheat your oven while you prepare your ingredients so it’s ready to go!

Step 1: Combine ingredients. Add both cereals, teddy grahams, and pretzels to a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add cinnamon mixture. Melt the butter in the microwave and stir in the cinnamon and sugar until fully combined. Then, pour it over the cereal mixture.

Step 3: Bake it. Toss everything gently and then transfer it to the baking sheet. Bake it for about 10 minutes and then set it aside to cool for at least 5 minutes.

Step 4: Serve. Carefully transfer it to a serving dish and serve!
Recipe Tips
- Storage directions: Store it in an airtight container or a Ziploc bag at room temperature. It will stay fresh for up to a week.
- Don’t rush the cooling process: Hot sugar causes burns! Allow the churro mix plenty of time to cool before you try it. Waiting is hard, but it’s not worth the risk of a burn.
- Keep it out of the fridge: Do not store this cinnamon Chex Mix in the refrigerator. The moisture and cold will make the ingredients soggy.
- Add more cinnamon and sugar: Toss the ingredients with more cinnamon and sugar before they cool to add a crunchy cinnamon sugar coating.

Serving Suggestions
- Add more elements to this churro snack mix, like sweet candy walnuts or spicy candy coated pecans, for more crunch.
- Sprinkle some on top of a scoop of ice cream. Red velvet ice cream and banana split ice cream are some of my favorite choices for this.
- Garnish caramel cheesecake bars with some snack mix to amp up the presentation.
Recipe FAQs
I don’t recommend this for the same reason you shouldn’t refrigerate the snack mix. As it thaws, it will take on moisture, making the ingredients wet and soggy.
Sure! It lasts up to a week on the counter, so feel free to make it a day or two ahead of time. I like to do this if I plan to serve it at a gathering or if I want to enjoy it throughout the week.
