This no-bake old fashioned chocolate pie recipe is rich, creamy, and so chocolatey. It has all the flavor and texture of chocolate mousse with far less effort.
I've loved these cream pies my entire life. I remember eating my grandma's chocolate pie version of chocolate mousse pie and her allowing me to lick the bowl. Instant puddings were so popular at the time and this was a long time ago.
I loved chocolate pudding so much and she loved me because she wasn't generally the type to allow bowl licking. I wish you could see the giant smile on my face right now as I write about her.
Besides my husband, son, and a few select others, she was and still is my favorite human. EVER.
This chocolate mousse pie always reminds me of my no-bake peanut butter pie recipe that's just like my grandma used to make too. - Milk: Use whole milk for the richest flavor. You can use evaporated milk, almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or soy milk as well but they will change the richness of the pudding mixture.
- Heavy whipping cream: We're splurging here to make a homemade for fresh whipped cream that mixes into the chocolate pudding to make it lighter and more like mousse.
- Whipped topping: For the top of the pie. Use light or low fat to reduce some calories.
