    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • It's a no-bake dessert: This is a simple recipe for Christmas marshmallow treats that doesn't require any baking. It only takes a few minutes to make.
    • It's customizable: You can make this recipe your own so easily! Change up the flavors or the decorations to make something completely new.
    • It's easy to prepare ahead: Since these Rice Krispie holiday treats need some time to set, you can make them a few hours or even a day in advance.

    Ingredients

This Christmas Krispie treat recipe consists of just 5 ingredients, making it super simple but still scrumptious!

Ingredients to make these Rice Krispie treats on a table.
    • Butter: I like to use salted butter to balance the sweetness of the treats. If you have unsalted butter, you may add a pinch of salt or skip it. That's up to you!
    • Marshmallows: I picked mini marshmallows because they melt quickly. Regular-sized marshmallows are fine, just ensure that the heat doesn't get too high so they have time to melt without burning the butter.
    • Rice Krispies: Any brand of rice cereal will work great in this holiday Rice Krispie treat recipe!
    • White chocolate chips: I like the pops of richness of the white chocolate chips. Plus, the white color stays true to the Christmas theme.
    • Sprinkles: I chose simple red, green, and white sprinkles for these Krispie treats.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Milk chocolate chips: Swap the white chocolate chips for milk chocolate chips for a different flavor.
    • Try a different cereal: Try this recipe using a different cereal like Cheerios or corn flakes for a new texture.
    • Switch the sprinkles: Use different color sprinkles depending on the occasion, like pastel colors for Easter or spring!

How to Make Christmas Rice Krispie Treats

These are the only steps you'll need to prepare these festive Rice Krispie treats. I recommended that you grease your 9x13 dish with nonstick cooking spray so they don't get stuck.

Rice cereal and white chocolate chips melted into the butter and marshmallow.

Step 1: Prepare the treat mixture. Melt the butter and marshmallows over medium-high heat. Then, take the pot off the heat and stir in the rice cereal and white chocolate chips.

The mixture in the 9x13 pan and the sprinkles added on top.

Step 2: Combine the crust ingredients. Next, spread the mixture in the 9x13 pan and add the sprinkles on top. Allow them to cool for about 30 minutes and enjoy!

    Recipe Tips

    • Watch the heat: You don't want the butter to brown or scorch, so ensure that the heat doesn't get too high. The butter must only melt with the marshmallows.
    • Ensure the marshmallows are fresh: Stale marshmallows don't melt as well as fresh ones. They become very chewy and stringy.
    • Double the recipe: Making them for a crowd? Double the recipe and make a larger batch!

    Serving Suggestions

    • Serve a tasty holiday beverage with your Christmas treats, like holiday punch or winter sangria.
    • Enjoy a scoop of gingerbread ice cream or hot chocolate ice cream on the side. You may even make a unique ice cream sandwich!
    • Crack small pieces of butter toffee and add them on top before they set for a sweet and salty crunch.

    Recipe FAQs

Why are the Krispies treats hard?

Pack the treats loosely in the pan. If they are compacted, it can make them hard or dense.

Why is it difficult to cut them?

If they are not set, then they will get stuck to the knife. If you put them in the fridge, they will become more difficult to cut through. Allow it to fully set on the counter, and then warm the blade of the knife under hot water.

    Can I use marshmallow fluff?

Sure! Use ⅓ cup of butter and stir it in off the heat. This will keep your Krispie treats from becoming too soft or greasy.
