    • Versatile Recipe: This syrup has so many uses and goes well with so many flavors.

    Ingredients

All you need is three ingredients to make this sweet and tasty blueberry simple syrup recipe. It’s easy and affordable, too!

Ingredients on the table to make blueberry simple syrup.
    • Blueberries: Use firm blueberries for this recipe for peak ripeness. If they are mushy then they are not good to use.
    • Sugar: I use simple white sugar for this recipe. Feel free to use another kind of sugar if you prefer though darker sugars may change the color.
    • Water: The combination of water and sugar is a classic and simple syrup recipe. It helps to thin out the blueberry mixture to achieve the right consistency.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Blueberry Lavender Syrup: Add food-grade dried lavender flowers to the syrup mixture for a subtle floral note and strain them with the blueberry pulp.
    • Blueberry Maple Syrup: Combine the fresh blueberries with pure maple syrup and simmer according to the recipe directions.
    • Blueberry Ginger Syrup: Add sliced or grated ginger to infuse some spice into the syrup and strain it out before storing.
    • Sugar-free Blueberry Syrup: Try this recipe with your favorite sugar substitute such as monk fruit sweetener or stevia.

Step 5: Cool and store. Let the blueberry syrup cool completely before transferring it to a glass jar or bottle. Place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

⭐️ Hint: Be sure that the glassware you use to store the blueberry syrup is sterilized before using it. This ensures that it stays freshest for as long as possible.

    Recipe Tips

    • Don’t cook on high heat: Make sure that the heat doesn’t get too high as it can burn the sugar.
    • Skip the strainer: Like the chunky blueberry pieces? Don’t strain the syrup!
    • Adjust the sweetness: Taste test the syrup and add more or less sugar based on your personal preference.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I store the blueberry syrup at room temperature?

No. The blueberry syrup must be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. It will spoil if it is left at room temperature.

    Can I use frozen blueberries?

Yes! You can even cook the blueberries straight from frozen. It may take a little longer to thicken the syrup.

Why is my blueberry syrup so thin?

Likely, it hasn’t simmered long enough. Allow the blueberries more time to cook and break down to thicken the syrup.
