Ingredients
This recipe for homemade gummy bears with Jello only requires two ingredients: Jello and water. Few treats are made with so little!

- Gelatin: You can use any flavor gelatin, but I used grape-flavored Jello as shown here. You also need unflavored gelatin. The extra gelatin helps the bears hold their shape as they set.
- Gummy Bear Mold: You will need a food grade gummy bear silicone mold to shape the candies.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Change the Color & More
- Red, Orange, Green, Pink, Blue, and Yellow Bears: Use strawberry-flavored Jello to make red, watermelon to make pink, and blue raspberry to make blue bears! Orange, lemon, and lime flavors will make orange, yellow, and green bears.
- Change the Shape: You can use any type of silicone mold in a similar size. So try your hand at making gummy hearts instead of bears or another fun shaped treat. This gummy bear kit from Amazon comes with a variety of shapes to use!
- Sugar-free: Use sugar-free Jello to make sugar-free gummy bears.
How to Make Gummy Bears with Jello
Here are the instructions you’ll need to make your own gummy bears. Place your silicone molds onto a sturdy sheet pan to make them easier to move around.

Step 1: Combine the gelatin and water. Add both the flavored and unflavored Jello to a mixing bowl with cold water.

Step 2: Let it bloom and microwave it. Whisk the ingredients well and then let them sit for about 5 minutes to bloom. Next, pop the bowl in the microwave for 30-45 seconds to ensure it is liquid and fully dissolved.

Step 3: Fill the silicone molds. Use an eye or candy dropper to fill the gummy bear molds with the Jello mixture.

Step 4: Chill and unmold. Stick the pan into the refrigerator for about 15 minutes for the gummy bears to chill set. Then, pop them out of the mold and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Storage directions: Store the gummy bears in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
- Don’t use cooking spray: I find that the gummy bears release from the silicone just fine without greasing it first. The nonstick cooking spray can pool and leave tiny craters or dents in the gummies.
- Allow the Jello enough time to set: It takes only 15 minutes for them to set enough to be taken out of the mold, so be patient. If you take them out too early, they will be a liquid mess.

Serving Suggestions
- Use the gummy bears as an adorable ice cream topping. Use your favorite store-bought flavor or make a homemade variety like monster cookie ice cream or Fruity Pebbles ice cream.
- Top a no-bake pie for a fun decoration. This Easter cheesecake pie and pineapple cream cheese pie are great choices.
- Enjoy a salty snack with your sweet one! Ranch snack mix makes a surprisingly great pair.
Recipe FAQs
This is normal. I like to brush them with a little powdered sugar or even cornstarch to make them less sticky.
I don’t recommend it because it ruins the texture. As they thaw, they become a sticky mess because they will also start melting.
It doesn’t need to be super hot because this can prevent the gelatin from setting properly. The microwave is a better choice here.

Jello Gummy Bears
Equipment
- small microwave-safe mixing bowl
- gummy candy kit Includes: 4 silicone molds in different shapes, 2 droppers
- candy or eye dropper
Ingredients
- 1 3-ounce package Jello any flavour you wish
- 1 tablespoon unflavoured gelatin
- ⅓ cup cold water 2.7 fl.oz
Instructions
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the jello, the gelatin and water until combined.
- Let the bowl stand for 5 minutes to allow the gelatin to bloom.
- Microwave the bowl on high for 30 seconds. Whisk to make sure that all the powder has dissolved. Microwave on high for an additional 15 seconds. You want the jello mixture to be very liquid-y and thin to be able to use the eye dropper.
- Place your molds on a cookie sheet so that you can move them without spilling. Use the candy or eye dropper to pour a little bit of the jello mixture into each gummy bear mold.
- Place in the fridge to chill for 15 minutes.
- Once the 15 minutes has passed, un-mold the gummy bears and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Store your Jello gummy bears in a Ziploc bag for up to 1 week in the refrigerator.
- Don’t freeze them! When the gummies thaw, they melt into a sticky mess.
- Skip the nonstick cooking spray! It’s not needed to grease the silicone molds as the gummy bears will come out of them just fine.
