I love making Avocado Hot Sauce as a rich yet spicy condiment for so many different foods. It’s easy to blend and stores well in the refrigerator. It’s one of my favorite additions to drizzle on tacos, nachos, or spread on sandwiches.
The jalapeno peppers add a subtle heat that compliments the creamy avocado and tang of the lime juice. I love the fresh garlic as well. It enhances the flavors of the other ingredients as well as adding a sharp note.

Ingredients
This recipe for green avocado salsa or sauce (whatever you want to call it) uses fresh produce for most of its ingredients. It’s a light yet rich condiment!
- Avocados: Ensure the avocados are nice and ripe before you use them. They will be soft to the touch but not mushy. They are the creamiest and have the best flavor!
- Jalapenos: You may do a rough chop of the jalapenos since they will blended. Add more or less depending on your desired heat level. I also remove the seeds for more control over the spice.
- Garlic: I love the flavor of fresh garlic in this sauce. It plays perfectly with the cilantro and spicy jalapenos.
- Cilantro: I use fresh chopped cilantro for more color and fresh herb flavor. You may leave it out if you don’t like the taste.
- Lime juice: This adds acidity to the avocado hot sauce as well as prevents the avocado from turning brown quickly.
- Salt and pepper: Add salt and pepper to taste. If you want to use less or more of either, go ahead!
- Water: Adding water will help achieve the right consistency for the sauce. It helps to prevent it from clumping and becoming too thick to drizzle.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Tomatillo avocado sauce: Try making this into a creamy avocado salsa by adding fresh tomatillos. You may need to adjust the amount of water added.
- Chipotle avocado sauce: Swap the jalapenos for chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for a smoky heat.
- Sour cream avocado sauce: Turn up the tangy flavor and add a couple of scoops of sour cream to this avocado sauce.
How to Make Avocado Hot Sauce
Measure out all of the ingredients ahead of time so you may just add them straight to the blender! It’s super easy to make this in just a few minutes.
Step 1: Prep the ingredients. Slice your avocados and jalapenos, remove the seeds, mince the garlic, and roughly chop the cilantro. Place all of the ingredients into the blender, including the water.
Step 2: Blend. Puree them until smooth. Add more water if necessary to achieve your desired thickness. Taste the sauce and add more salt or pepper if needed.
⭐️ Hint: Chopping the ingredients instead of blending them whole will keep the blade in your blender from becoming clogged. If you need to stir it, ensure the blender is off and the container is removed from the unit for safety.
