Air fryer toast always cooks up golden and crispy, and it's ready in less time than a toaster. It's a great new way to make this classic breakfast side using regular or thick sliced bread.
I love toast, but I don't love the crumb mess that it leaves in my toaster and on the counter. By making it in the air fryer, I bypass all of that.
Air Fryer Toast
This was inspired by my other air fryer toast recipe on this site and pairs well with these air fryer frozen sausage patties or top it with our Jalapeno Jam!
Ingredients
It only takes one - that's right, one - ingredient to make this recipe.
- White bread - standard thickness or extra thick
See the recipe card at the end of the post for quantities.
Instructions
It's as easy to make this recipe as it is to gather your ingredient.
Step 1: Prep
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2: Air Fry the Toast
Spread a small amount of butter onto each side of the bread and air fry for 2 to 3 minutes. If using thick bread, air fry for 3 to 4 minutes.
Hint: You don't need a ton of butter on the toast to cook it. A thin layer will work just fine.

Storage
Don't try to store leftover toast. It's never as good, and you don't need to, anyway. Just make as much as you'll eat.
Tips
It doesn't get much simpler than this recipe, but I do have some tips here to make it the best it can possibly be.
- Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking.
- Always spray your basket with nonstick spray so nothing sticks.
- You only need a thin layer of butter on your bread, if desired.
- If wanting to toast more than one slice at a time, lean as many slices that will fit standing up around the edge of your air fryer basket. Cook for same length of time. With or without butter.
- Once you figure out exact timing on your favorite bread you'll stop using your toaster. Just like we did.
