Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • Big flavor, simple ingredients: Pantry staples create an unforgettable side dish that pairs well with almost any protein.
    • Sweet and spicy balance: Hot honey adds bold flavor without overpowering the carrots.
    • Easy and family-friendly: Simply mix, roast, and adjust the heat level to your taste like our hot honey salmon recipe.

    Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients and one quick trip to the grocery store to make these delicious Hot Honey Carrots.

All of the ingredients needed to make hot honey carrots in bowls on a table
    • Hot Honey: Creates the sweet and spicy glaze that flavors the carrots. Why use store-bought when you can make our 4-ingredient hot honey? It tastes even better, and you can easily control the level of heat.
    • Red Pepper Flakes: Adds extra heat and enhances the hot honey.
    • Salt: Balances sweetness and brings out flavor.
    • Black Pepper: Adds subtle warmth and depth.
    • Garlic Powder: Gives the carrots savory flavor.
    • Carrots: The star ingredient that becomes sweet and tender when roasted.
    • Parsley: Adds color and freshness for serving.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Sweet flavor twists: Replace part of the hot honey with maple syrup, add brown sugar for extra caramelization, or finish with fresh lemon juice and zest for brightness like our lemon garlic asparagus.
    • Savory upgrades: Add Dijon mustard, parmesan cheese, melted butter, or a splash of balsamic vinegar for extra richness.
    • Herb and spice variations: Add Cajun seasoning for heat, fresh rosemary, chives or fresh thyme for more flavor.

How To Make Hot Honey Carrots

These Hot Honey Carrots come together in just a few simple steps and are much easier to make than they look. First, make a batch of our hot honey if you're not using store-bought. Preheat your oven to 425ยฐF. and line a 9x13 baking sheet with parchment paper.

A bowl with hot honey, red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 1: Prepare coating for carrots. In a large bowl, combine the hot honey, red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until smooth.

Step 2: Coat the carrots. Add the carrots to the same bowl and toss until all pieces are coated in hot honey sauce.

Step 3: Add carrots to prepared baking sheet. Lay them out in a single layer on the parchment paper and reserve any leftover sauce.

Step 4: Roast the carrots. Bake for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through. Carrots are done when fork-tender and lightly caramelized around the edges.

Once baked, drizzle with the reserved hot honey sauce, then sprinkle with extra red pepper flakes and parsley for garnish. Serve with our pork rib roast.

    Expert Tips

    • Prep for success: Cut the carrots into similar-sized pieces, use fresh carrots, and line the pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup and even cooking.
    • Roast like a pro: Don't overcrowd the pan, flip the carrots halfway through cooking, and roast until they are fork-tender with caramelized edges.
    • Customize and serve: Adjust the red pepper flakes to control the heat, reserve extra glaze for drizzling, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

If you love recipes like this, you may also enjoy easy roasted carrots, potatoes and onions.

    Storage Directions

    • Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4 days. I don't recommend freezing because the carrots can become soft after thawing, but they can be frozen for up to 2 months if needed.
    • Reheat: Warm in a 350ยฐF oven for 10-15 minutes or microwave until heated through.
    • Make Ahead: Slice the carrots and prepare the glaze up to 1 day in advance.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Classic dinners: Serve alongside roasted chicken, grilled pork chops, baked honey mustard ham, meatloaf, or beef tenderloin.
    • Holiday meals: Add to Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, or holiday buffet spreads for a colorful and flavorful side dish.
    • Lighter pairings: Serve with grilled salmon, fried salmon bites, roast turkey, crockpot eye of the round roast, or other roasted proteins for a balanced meal.

    Hot Honey Carrots Recipe FAQs

Can I use baby carrots to make hot honey carrots?

Yes! Baby carrots work well in this recipe. Roast smaller or halved baby carrots at 425ยฐF for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, and start checking for doneness around the 20-minute mark. If using whole baby carrots, plan on 25-30 minutes and begin checking around the 25-minute mark. The carrots are ready when they are fork-tender and lightly caramelized around the edges.

Can I make hot honey carrots in the air fryer?

Arrange coated 1 inch carrots in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 380ยฐF for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the carrots are fork-tender and lightly caramelized around the edges. If you love air fryer vegetables, try our air fryer baby potatoes.

Can I use regular honey instead of hot honey?

Yes. Replace the hot honey with regular honey and add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes if you'd still like some heat.
