Ingredients

- Canned cinnamon rolls: Make sure they are the Pillsbury grand cinnamon rolls because you will need to roll them out.
- Chocolate chip cookie dough: Any brand of ready-to-bake chocolate chip cookie dough will work great. Cinnabon chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorites! Try one of their other flavors of dough like caramel chocolate or cinnamon roll cookie. Nestle Toll House is another go-to of mine if I can't find Cinnabon cookies.
- Cream cheese: Leave the cream cheese out at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften.
See the recipe card below for the full list with exact quantities of each ingredient.
Variations
- Oreo: After adding the cookie dough, sprinkle with crushed Oreos before rolling and slicing. After baking, garnish with more Oreos or fold it in the icing.
- Caramel: Drizzle store-bought or homemade caramel sauce onto the dough before rolling or use it as a drizzle once they’re baked. I also recommend a pinch of salt for a salted caramel flavor.
- Peanut butter: Use peanut butter cookie dough in place of the chocolate chip cookie dough or add peanut butter chips. I also recommend adding ¼ cup of peanut butter to the icing to reinforce that flavor! It pairs great with cinnamon and chocolate. Garnish with chopped Reese’s cups, too!
- Go Nuts: Add your favorite chopped nuts like peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, or walnuts to give some added crunch.

If you have a recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, or both, you can use them instead of store-bought. I like using premade baked goods for this because it saves a ton of time and effort. It’s meant to be a quick and delicious treat!
I love the tang and creaminess the cream cheese adds. It helps to balance the sweetness of the cookie cinnamon rolls. You may leave it out if you prefer.
Yes, you can. Follow the recipe up to the point of baking. Instead of baking, though, pop the rolls in the freezer for a couple of hours to firm up. Once firm, seal them in a freezer bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you are ready to enjoy, arrange the frozen rolls on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake just as you normally would, just for a little bit longer (until they are golden-brown and puffy).

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cinnamon Rolls
Equipment
- Thin string or knife
Ingredients
- 1 tube (17.5 oz) Pillsbury Grand Cinnamon Rolls plus the icing that comes with them
- 1 tube (16 oz) sheet ready-to-bake chocolate chip cookie dough kneaded until soft
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
Instructions
Prepare
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the cinnamon rolls. Unroll the cinnamon rolls out on a flat non-stick surface without breaking them apart.
- Roll out cookie dough. Place the cookie dough on the flat non-stick surface and use a rolling pin or clean hands to roll it into a ½-inch thick rectangle that is the same width and length as the unrolled cinnamon rolls.
Assemble
- Lay the rectangle of cookie dough over the rectangle of cinnamon roll dough and roll the cinnamon rolls and cookie dough up together.
- Use a thin string or sharp knife to cut the rolls apart into 5 separate rolls. If using a string, slide the string under the roll, tie a loose knot, and slowly but firmly tighten the knot until it has cut through the roll. If using a knife, firmly hold the roll and rock the knife back and forth to cut so that it doesn’t flatten the dough.
Bake
- Place the rolls about 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Set them aside to slightly cool while you make the icing.
Make the icing
- In a small microwave safe bowl, microwave the cream cheese for 30 seconds (or until very soft) and mix it with the icing from the cinnamon roll package until smooth.
- Drizzle the icing over the chocolate chip cookie stuffed cinnamon rolls and serve.
Notes
- Make it ahead. Set up your cookie dough cinnamon rolls, cover them, and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking them.
- Choose the right cinnamon rolls. Pillsbury original cinnamon rolls do not unroll like the Grands brand does. Be sure to grab the right ones.
- Double the recipe. If you are making this for a get-together, this recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled!
