You can easily cook Frozen Cod in the Air Fryer and end up with a winning meal. The filets cook fast, so it’s a great choice for dinner if you’re short on time or forgot to thaw something else (I am guilty of this way too often).

The best part about this recipe is that out of all other cod recipes, it’s the most versatile. I seasoned them simply with salt and pepper, but you can use whatever spices you like. Switch it up to create an entirely different dinner. Cod doesn’t have a strong fish flavor so it is loved by my kids, too!

Why You’ll Love This Frozen Cod in the Air Fryer Recipe

    • Ready in less than 30 minutes: This is a quick and easy dinner idea that is on the table in less than 30 minutes.
    • Pairs well with anything: There are endless possibilities when it comes to serving options.
    • Weeknight favorite: It’s the perfect recipe for a busy weeknight or when you don’t feel like cooking.

    Ingredients

This air fryer frozen cod recipe just needs two ingredients — cod and spices! It doesn’t get any easier than that! I typically just grab cod and season it with whatever flavors I’m craving.

Ingredients needed to frozen cod in the air fryer.
    • Cod filets: The main ingredient for this recipe is frozen cod filets. They are easy to find in any grocery store and they don’t break the bank.
    • Seasonings: I stick with salt and pepper but you can choose what you prefer! Garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika are all simple but add great flavor. Experiment to find your favorites!

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Cajun: Season the frozen cod filets with your favorite cajun seasoning blend for a kick.
    • Hot honey: Brush the cod with Honey Hot Sauce for a sweet and spicy glaze.
    • Teriyaki: Use your favorite store-bought teriyaki sauce or use the sauce in this Teriyaki Salmon Recipe to make it homemade.
    • Garlic and herb: Coat the cod filets in minced garlic and fresh herbs like parsley, basil, and dill.
    • Spicy: Add a bit of chili pepper flakes, jalapeno powder, smoked jalapeno powder, or chipotle powder for a bit of heat.

How to Make Frozen Cod in the Air Fryer

Here are the instructions to cook frozen cod filets in the air fryer. Be sure to preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F and spray it with non-stick cooking spray to keep the fish from sticking.

Step 1: Place cod in the air fryer. Arrange the frozen cod filets into the bottom of the greased air fryer basket. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the top of each of the cod filets. This is when you can add more spices if you prefer.

Step 2: Cook. Air fryer the cod filets for about 12-15 minutes. They’re ready when they flake easily with a fork.

⭐️ Pro Tip: You don’t want the fish to overlap so it cooks evenly. If the filets don’t fit, cook them in batches.

⭐️ Hint: It’s a good idea to shake the basket about halfway through cooking. You can flip them but it’s not necessary.

    Storage

    • Refrigeration: Store any leftover cod in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
    • Reheating: Place the cod into the air fryer at 350 degrees F and heat for 3-5 minutes or until warm. It’s also great cold!
    • Freezing: I like to store each cod filet in a small freezer bag for convenience. It’s great for a quick lunch. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    Serving Suggestions

    Recipe Tips

    • Use another white fish: Halibut and tilapia are both great cooked in the air fryer from frozen. You can make almost any kind of air fryer frozen fish filets.
    • Line with parchment: Place parchment in the bottom of the air fryer basket for easy cleanup.
    • When in doubt, use a thermometer. If you are still unsure if the cod filets are cooked properly, use a thermometer. Probe the thickest part of the filet and it should read 145 degrees F.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I bread the cod filets?

I do not recommend adding breading unless the fish has thawed. Otherwise, it’s not going to stick. Frozen cod cooks best in the air fryer with no breading.

Can I bake them in the oven?

Yes. Place the frozen cod on a line sheet pan and bake in a 350-degree F oven for 15-18 minutes or until flaky.

Do I need to thaw the cod first?

Not at all! The beauty of this recipe is that you can cook the filets frozen in the air fryer.
