If you love margaritas with a little personality, this spicy version will quickly become a favorite. The jalapeño adds a subtle heat that balances beautifully with the lime and orange liqueur, while the Tajín rim adds a salty chili punch. It's vibrant, refreshing, and incredibly easy to customize depending on how spicy or sweet you like your drinks.

This was inspired by my pineapple margarita recipe other recipe and cranberry margarita recipe on this site, and pairs well with this margarita grilled chicken.

    • Ice: Chills the margarita and gives it a refreshing finish.

    For the Rim

    • Tajín or chili powder : Creates a flavorful chili-lime rim that enhances every sip.

    Recipe FAQs

What tequila is best for a spicy margarita?

Blanco tequila is the most common choice because it has a clean, crisp flavor that pairs well with lime and jalapeño. Reposado tequila also works well if you prefer a slightly smoother, more complex taste.

What is Tajín and why is it used on the rim?

Tajín is a Mexican seasoning made from chili peppers, lime, and salt. It adds a tangy, spicy flavor that perfectly complements the citrus and jalapeño in the margarita.

What can I use instead of agave to sweeten this drink?

Use honey, corn syrup, coconut nectar, simple syrup, stevia or maple syrup instead.

Can I make a pitcher of spicy margaritas for a party?

Absolutely. Simply multiply all the ingredients by the number of servings and mix them in a pitcher. Add jalapeño slices and let them infuse for about 15-20 minutes before serving, then strain and serve over ice.
