Ingredients

For the Margarita​

  • 2 oz tequila blanco or reposado​
  • 1 oz triple sec or orange liqueur​
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice​
  • ½ oz agave or to taste​
  • 2-3 slices fresh jalapeño adjust for heat​
  • Ice

For the Rim​

  • 1 tablespoon Tajín or chili powder​
  • Lime wedge for rimming the glass
  • Garnish​
  • Lime and jalapeño slice

Instructions

Prepare the glass​

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip it into Tajín to coat. Fill the glass with ice.​

For the margarita​

  • In a cocktail shaker, add 2–3 jalapeño slices and agave. Gently muddle to release the flavor and heat.​
  • Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and a handful of ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Strain into your prepared glass over the ice. Garnish with a lime and jalapeño slice.

Notes

  • Chill Your Glass: So your drink will stay cool longer.
  • Control the Heat: Remove the jalapeño seeds for a milder cocktail, or add extra slices for more spice.​
  • Use Fresh Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice makes a huge difference in flavor. It adds brightness and freshness that bottled lime juice usually cannot match.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Taste and tweak the sweetness with agave to balance the spice and tequila before pouring.​
  • Storage: Best enjoyed immediately after shaking. For a make-ahead version, mix everything except the ice and garnishes, store covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours, then shake individual servings with ice before pouring.
