Ketchup with onions takes traditional ketchup and makes it extra zippy with onions, brown sugar, butter, and white vinegar. Onion ketchup is sweet, tangy, and so delicious.
My dad loved ketchup while we were growing up and it used to drive my mother crazy because he loved putting it on everything. I remember her complaining to him that he was unable to taste the food she made.
I do understand her point but I also understand how much my dad loved ketchup.
He would have loved this onion ketchup and I wish he could have tried it. My husband, who is also a ketchup fan, can eat this ketchup with onions almost out of a bowl.
He loves this stuff that much and if you're a ketchup lover, you will too.

This was inspired by my easy red chicken recipe, and pairs well with this air fryer chicken fries or grilled cheese and tomato.

Onion Ketchup Tips
This recipe is so simple, I don't have much in the way of tips. You only need to remember a couple of things.
- Keep the heat low. You're caramelizing the onions, not browning them.
- The longer you simmer this ketchup (within reason) the better it will be. Keep it covered to prevent it from reducing too much.
