Chocolate covered strawberries are usually associated with Valentine's Day, but I changed them up a bit to make them the perfect addition to your Easter table.

These festive treats feature red ripe strawberries and chocolate coatings made to look like Easter eggs and even a bunny rabbit. Adorable.

This was inspired by my chocolate covered peanuts recipe! If you want more ideas for Easter desserts, check out this Easter Cheesecake, Easy Easter cake recipe, Cake Roll With Cake Mix, Chocolate Covered Blueberries or these Easter chocolate chip cookies.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • An Easter dessert made with only a few simple ingredients.
    • It's so much easier to make than you think and may even be a fun project for the kids.
    • Chocolate covered strawberries are a classic combo everyone loves.

    Ingredients

You'll only need a few simple ingredients to make chocolate covered strawberries for Easter. You'll find almost everything you need at your local grocery store.

Here's an overview but you'll find the complete list and quantities in the recipe card.

Individual chocolate covered strawberry ingredients in bowls on table
    • Strawberries: Look for ripe, fresh strawberries that are free from blemishes. Larger-sized strawberries work best if possible.
    • White chocolate: Choose your favorite baking white chocolate brand but I generally like to splurge for a high-quality one for dipped strawberries.
    • Candy color: Choose oil-based candy color for the most brilliant color that won't fade. You will need white, orange, and blue.
    • Assorted sprinkles: You're choice here!
    • Mini marshmallows: These will be used to make the ears for the bunnies.
    • Edible food coloring marker: You will need this in black to draw on the details.

You're also going to need toothpicks for dipping the strawberries and kitchen shears for cutting the marshmallows.

    Substitutions and Variations

    • White Chocolate: You can also use candy melts or white chocolate chips in place of white Belgian chocolate. Using colored melts can save time since they wouldn't require coloring. Our post on using white chocolate is a big help if you need it.
    • Add Extract: Vanilla is a universal crowd-pleaser but feel free to add in a half teaspoon of almond, coconut, peppermint, lemon, banana, maple, orange, or rum extract instead.
    • Change the Candy Color - Use seasonal colors or your favorite to make these Easter chocolate covered strawberries.
    • Sprinkles: Use sparkles in place or along with the sprinkles.
    • Mini Marshmallows - Use colored mini marshmallows or larger marshmallows cut into small squares.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries for Easter

Here's an overview of how to make Easter bunnies, carrots, and Easter eggs by dipping strawberries in chocolate and adding decorations. Check the full instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post for more details.

⭐ TOP TIP: Be sure to let the excess chocolate drip off of the strawberries before placing them on your sheet to set. Too much chocolate will make a globby, uneven surface.

⭐ Hint: When inserting a toothpick into the top of a clean, dry, room-temperature strawberry, be careful not to puncture the sides of the strawberry which will release juice into the chocolate and your strawberries will not set correctly.

    Storage

Room Temperature: These are best when eaten the day they're made. Store them in a container lined with paper towels at room temperature in a cool dark place for about 1-2 days.

Refrigerator: Although they lose some of their flavor, these can be stored in a container lined with paper towels. Place the strawberries in a single layer and don't cover them. They'll keep for about 2-3 days but the longer they sit the more moisture the strawberries will release.

Freezer: Strawberries dipped in chocolate shouldn't be frozen.

Make Ahead: These are best when served fresh and shouldn't be made in advance.

    Tips

    • Be sure to stir the chocolate and cook in short intervals when warming it in the microwave to avoid scorching and burning.
    • Use only oil-based candy coloring otherwise, you may get an uneven color and streaking.
    • You can set up the strawberries for a short time in the freezer but keep in mind that the stems will not be a bright green anymore. A good option if you are running short on time but only use it if absolutely necessary.
    • Kids will love making these strawberries, especially adding the sprinkle details!
    • Use room-temperature strawberries for best results.
    • Store in a cool place but not in the refrigerator for the bests flavor and look.

    FAQ

Why do chocolate covered strawberries sweat?

Sweating can appear on the surface of the chocolate and also in between the chocolate and the berry. This happens because of the moisture in both the chocolate and the strawberries. Storing the chocolate-covered strawberries in a refrigerator will further attract condensation because the fridge is a very humid place

Why are my chocolate covered strawberries wet?

The wetness or sweat is just condensation. Both the chocolate and strawberries contain water and when they are subjected to a big temperature change, like going from a chilly fridge to a comfortable room temperature, this brings out the moisture.

How do you keep chocolate-covered strawberries from sweating?

To minimize sweating, place a couple sheets of paper towels into the bottom of an airtight container. Store the strawberries on top of the paper towels. If you need to store multiple layers of strawberries, place pieces of parchment paper between the layers.

    Instructions

    • Start by washing the strawberries. Allow them to thoroughly drain and dry on paper towels. Your strawberries must be dry.

    Easter Bunny

    • Melt 8 ounces of white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 20-second increments, stirring in between until melted and smooth. Add a few drops of white candy color for a bright white if you wish.
    • Line a baking sheet or plate with waxed paper.
    • Insert a toothpick or two into the top of a clean dry strawberry, taking care not to puncture the sides which will release juice into the chocolate and the strawberries will not set correctly.
    • Dip the strawberry in the white chocolate allowing the excess to drip back into the bowl and place it on the prepared plate or tray.
    • While the chocolate is still wet, carefully add a heart-shaped sprinkle for the nose.
    • Next, add 2 round black sprinkles for the eyes ( for a fun detail use a toothpick dipped in a small amount of white chocolate, add a little white sparkle to each eye). Add two small pink pearl sprinkles to form cheeks.
    • Place the plate in the refrigerator to set.
    • Once set, draw the mouth with an edible black food marker, using light pressure to avoid creating a hole in the chocolate.
    • Using a pair of kitchen shears or a sharp knife make a slit in the middle of a mini marshmallow being careful not to cut all the way through.
    • Pull open the marshmallow to create an ear. Press the sticky side down into a small dish of nonpareils. Repeat with another marshmallow for the second ear.
    • Using melted chocolate and a toothpick, attach the ears to the top of the bunny's head.
    • Allow to set (popping it back in the fridge for 10 minutes will set it faster than air drying).

    Carrot

    • Melt 8 ounces of white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 20-second increments, stirring in between until melted and smooth. Add a few drops of orange candy color until you reach your desired shade.
    • Insert a toothpick in the strawberry and dip it into the orange chocolate allowing the excess to drip back into the bowl. Transfer it to the wax paper lined plate and allow it to set in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
    • Add about a tablespoon of the melted orange chocolate to either a piping bag or a resealable bag with the corner cut out. Drizzle some lines on the carrot for texture.
    • Allow to fully set.

    Easter Egg

    • Melt 8 ounces of white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 20-second increments, stirring in between until melted and smooth. Add a few drops of blue candy color until you reach your desired shade.
    • Insert a toothpick in the strawberry and dip it into the blue chocolate allowing the excess to drip back into the bowl. Transfer it to the wax paper lined plate, Garnish with sprinkles of your choice in a line pattern or any pattern you wish!
    • Allow to fully set.
