Ingredients
You'll only need a handful of ingredients to make this recipe, and they're all easily found at your local grocery store. See the recipe card at the end of the post for exact quantities.
- Chocolate: Use a good quality mixture of milk chocolate and dark chocolate to create the perfect level of sweetness. I suggest using high-quality chocolate from Belgian or Ghirardelli chocolate for the best results if possible.
- Graham Crackers: Any brand will do! You can use plain graham crackers and the variations such as cinnamon spice, chocolate, or honey oat.
- Sprinkles for decorating: The sky is the limit so choose your favorites. You can even use seasonal sprinkles for different times of the year.
Can I use chocolate chips?
Yes, you can use white, dark, semi-sweet, or flavored chocolate chips such as butterscotch, caramel, peanut butter, or mint chocolate.
However, they likely will need a teaspoon or two of coconut or vegetable oil added if the chocolate isn't smooth when melted.
I like the idea of using a variety of flavored chips such as white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, or caramel bits in lieu of plain white chocolate to create interesting flavor combinations.
Substitutions
- Chocolate: Use your favorite chocolate, white, dark, semi-sweet or milk chocolate will work individually or mixed together. Squares, almond bark, melting wafers, or chips all work as long as they melt easily.
- Prefer a different type of cookie? Use your favorite flat or semi-flat cookie instead like ginger snaps, vanilla wafers, pretzels, biscotti, Oreo cookies, chocolate wafers, shortbread, or peanut butter cookies.
Variations
- Flavor Layer: Add a layer of cream cheese or marshmallow fluff on top of each cracker before topping them with melted chocolate
- Flavor the Chocolate: Add some peanut butter, chocolate spread, almond butter, or hazelnut spread instead to flavor your chocolate.
- Color: Use food coloring to add seasonal or preferred colors to white chocolate
- Add Spice: Use some ground ginger, espresso powder, or instant coffee to flavor the chocolate.
- Sea Salt: Add a pinch of sea salt to the melted chocolate to amplify the flavor.
How to Make Chocolate Dipped Graham Crackers
This recipe is so easy even beginners can do it. It only takes a few minutes and a few simple steps. The highlights are below, but you'll find the complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.
- Melt the milk and dark chocolate in the microwave and stir until smooth.
- Dip the graham crackers in the melted chocolate.
- Place the dipped cracker on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use a fork to create texture in the chocolate if desired.
- Garnish the chocolate covered graham crackers by drizzling melted white chocolate and more milk and dark chocolate mix over them and adding sprinkles.
TOP TIP: If you don't have a piping bag to drizzle the chocolate, use a resealable sandwich bag and cut a small corner off.
Chocolate too thick to drizzle? Try adding a teaspoon or two of vegetable or coconut oil to thin it out.
- Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes or in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until set.
- Once the chocolate is set, serve them up or store them for later!

More Ideas for Decorating
- Peppermint: Use crushed candy cane for a festive color and flavor.
- Salty Crunch: Add crushed pretzels on dipped cookie for a salty kick.
- Add Fruit: Top with finely chopped dried cherries, apricots, strawberries, raisins, or cranberries.
- Go Nuts: Used chopped almonds, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, coconut flakes, cashews, hazelnuts, or peanuts on top.
- Add a Drizzle: Add marshmallow creme, storebought or homemade cream cheese or buttercream frosting, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, peanut butter, hazelnut spread, or almond butter to a resealable bag, snip the corner off and squeeze creme in a pattern on top of each dipped cookie.
- Orange Zest: Add orange zest to the top of dipped chocolate crackers.
- Add Crunch: Add cereal like Rice Krispies or a crushed-up cereal to mix in chocolate before dipping your crackers in it
- Add Cookie Shapes: Use thinly rolled out cookie dough and create shapes using cookie cutters, bake, cool, dip in any color/flavored chocolate desired, and adhere to your dipped graham crackers before placing them on a parchment paper-covered cookie sheet.
Storage
- Room Temperature: Store the chocolate covered graham crackers in a single layer, separated by parchment paper if there are multiple layers. They will last at room temperature (as long as it isn't too hot) for about two weeks.
- Refrigerator and Freezer: Store in an airtight container for up to a month using the same method as above or in the freezer for up to three months.
- Make Ahead: Because these chocolate covered graham crackers store so well, you're free to make them almost as far in advance as you like.
Tips
- A fork is the easiest utensil to use for dipping your graham crackers into the melted chocolate and onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- When piping chocolate onto your graham crackers, use a zigzag motion in opposite directions with both white and dark chocolate (or white chocolate with color added) to create a cool design.
- Don’t forget to transfer your cookie sheet containing the finished crackers into either the freezer for 10 minutes or the refrigerator for 30 minutes so that the chocolate can set properly
- Before dipping your graham crackers into the melted chocolate, make sure they are completely dry and free from any additional moisture so the chocolate sticks to the cracker. Patting them down with a paper towel can help but I have never had to do this.
- To prevent any messes while melting your chocolate use one with higher sides so it doesn’t splatter all over the inside of the microwave!
- No microwave? Use a double boiler instead of the microwave. This method also gives better temperature control and helps prevent your chocolate from burning or seizing.

We love to make these sweet treats! My kids lovecto help make them. I prefer using coconut oil over vegetable oil because the taste of coconut and chocolate is super yummy. My hubby likes to use caramel syrup on top as well. I like the freezer option best. (to set the chocolate) it just works better for me. Always a hit! So delicious anyway you make them! ❤️
