Do you have kids that are picky eaters?  It's sure to be a crowd pleaser and even get the pickiest of eaters to gobble up their veggies.

Cooking in the air fryer uses circulating hot air to cook food more quickly than other methods! You'll also find that foods are less greasy than frying because there is no oil used!

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • Simple Recipe. A quick and easy recipe that's perfect for busy weeknights.
    • Great Flavors. The combination of flavorful ingredients makes wonderful green beans that even picky eaters will enjoy.
    • Versatile Side Dish: This amazing side dish is an excellent choice for dinner parties and family gatherings and it pairs well with practically everything.

    Ingredients

This parmesan green beans recipe requires common, everyday items. You will need the following:

All the ingredients needed to make parmesan green beans.
    • Green Beans: Fresh trimmed and washed green beans are preferable. You can use frozen green beans instead of fresh ones. Just make sure to thaw them and pat them dry to avoid soggy beans before tossing with the parmesan mixture.
    • Grated Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated adds a sharp, nutty flavor to the beans and is best, however the store-bought grated parmesan works well too.
    • Garlic: Freshly minced is preferable but a half tablespoon of garlic powder will work in a pinch.
    • Butter: Salted or unsalted butter can be used to flavor your green beans. Try to choose a good quality butter. You may find you need to add a bit more salt when using unsalted butter.

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

    Substitutions and Variations

Don't have the correct ingredients on hand? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this (Alternate Keyword here)

    • Spicy: Sprinkling a bit of chili pepper flakes on the cooked beans for a bit of heat.
    • Add Potatoes: Add some cut small potatoes and have parmesan covered potatoes too. Be sure to adjust the cooking time for the potatoes.
    • Add Flavor: Add your favorite spices such as smoked paprika, harissa, dried oregano, basil or Italian seasoning.
    • Make Lemon Parmesan Green Beans: Add a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to butter for tangy flavor and balance and a sprinkling of lemon zest right after cooking.
    • Add Breadcrumbs: Add a quarter cup of breadcrumbs to the parmesan cheese mixture for a crisp topping.
    • Add Slivered Almonds: Adding almonds over top of freshly cooked beans brings crunch and nutty flavor to your beans.

    Storage

Refrigerator: If you have any leftovers, you can easily store them after cooled in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. I do not recommend freezing them.

Reheat: Place them back in your air fryer at 350 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes or until warm or use a microwave until they are heated through.

Another option is to reheat air fryer green beans in the oven. Place them evenly on a greased baking sheet and avoid overlapping the beans as much as possible. Cook them at 350°F for around 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them so that they don't burn.

What to Serve with Green Beans

These air fryer green beans with parmesan go with a wide range of chicken, fish, pork and beef roast recipes.

    • Enjoy them with your favorite Easter dinner chicken recipes, pork chop recipes, angus steak recipes, ground beef and shrimp recipes, and salmon recipes.
    • They also work well with simple casseroles such as Crockpot Chicken Stuffing Casserole, Cheesy Tuna Casserole, and Hot Dog Casserole.

    Tips

    • Don't forget to check the progress of your green beans especially near the end of cooking so they don't burn.
    • Use bright green, crisp, fresh green beans rather than frozen ones with no brown spots or wilting for best results.
    • Wash the green beans thoroughly, and snap or slice off the ends to remove stems. Make sure to thoroughly pat dry the beans after washing to avoid any excess moisture.
    • Always preheat the air fryer before adding the green beans for best results.
    • Shake the air fryer basket to adjust the green beans halfway through the cooking time so they cook evenly and become crispy.
    • Serve your green beans immediately after cooking for the best taste and texture.

    FAQ

Why didn't my air fryer green beans get crispy?

If your green beans didn't get crispy, there could be several reasons for it. First, make sure that you preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees F before cooking. Also, avoid overcrowding the beans in your air fryer basket. Last, make sure your green beans are dry after washing.

Can I use frozen green beans?

Yes, you can! Frozen green beans are a staple in my freezer because they don't take long to prepare and they taste great. I always try to have a bag ready for when I feel like preparing a quick meal. Just remember that frozen vegetables will require more time in the air fryer - but there's nothing to worry about as you can set the timer

How do I pick fresh green beans?

Pick green beans whose ends are bright and not withered. You can test for freshness by trying to snap the stem - if it is soft, the vegetable is over-ripe and you should try another one!

    Instructions

    • Gather all your ingredients. Wash your hands first then trim both ends of the green beans. I also like to remove any strings in the beans. Make sure that there are no brown spots on the skin and rinse them thoroughly before placing them in a strainer.
    • In a large bowl add melted butter, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir until blended. Add green beans and toss until coated in butter. Add grated parmesan cheese and toss until there is parmesan cheese all over your beans.
    • Place ingredients into a greased air fryer basket. Air fry at 370ºF for 10-12minutes or until beans are tender, tossing at midway point.
    • Remove the green beans from the air fryer. Serve and enjoy.

Tried this recipe and loved it. These beans are so good I’ve eaten an entire pound with my husband as a snack while watching television. I’ve made them with different main courses and they always disappear first. Will definitely make again and again. Thanks for sharing.
