    Smoked Asparagus Recipe

This side dish recipe was inspired by my need to find a different way to serve one of our favorite vegetables. You can pair this healthy and delicious side dish with my Smoked Clams recipe.

    Ingredients

You only need eight ingredients to make this fresh and easy smoked side dish. You may not even need a trip to the grocery store.

    • asparagus trimmed
    • capers
    • olive oil
    • garlic minced
    • butter cut into tiny cubes
    • kosher salt
    • fresh ground black pepper
    • lemon juice

See recipe card below for quantities.

    Instructions

These easy smoked side dish recipe only requires five simple steps, then you have a delicious vegetable to go with dinner.

Step 1: Preheat the smoker and prepare your asparagus

Preheat smoker or setup grill for indirect grilling at 275°F. Wash and trim the woody roots off the bottoms of the asparagus stalks.

    Step 2: Season the asparagus

Drizzle and toss with olive oil and then spread the asparagus evenly in the pan. Spread the tiny cubes of butter and garlic on top of the asparagus. Season with Salt and Pepper to taste.

    Step 3: Add your pellets

Add smoking wood to the grill or smoker once it is at 275°F. Place the pan in the smoker, OR on the opposite side of the heat if using a grill so it is cooking indirectly. Close the lid. Toss the asparagus occasionally with tongs as the butter melts to coat the asparagus and incorporate.

    Step 4: Smoke the asparagus

Smoke the asparagus for roughly 35-45 minutes or until tender but still firm. When the asparagus is done, remove the asparagus from the hot pan so it does not continue to cook.

    Step 5: Finish the asparagus

Transfer the remaining butter and garlic sauce to a separate container or remove the pan from the heat. Plate the asparagus and drizzle with some extra butter/garlic sauce. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over to finish.

Hint: Use a disposable foil pan for easy clean up.
