Get out and measure your ingredients.
Preheat your smoker or setup grill for indirect grilling at 275°F.
Wash and snap or cut off the woody stem from bottom of asparagus.
Toss with olive oil and then lay the asparagus evenly in your pan. Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top.
Sprinkle butter cubes and garlic all over the top of the asparagus. Season with salt and pepper.
Place the pan in your preheated smoker, or on the opposite side of the heat if you're using a grill. You need the asparagus to cook over indirect heat. Close the lid.
Adjust your asparagus periodically with tongs as the butter melts to keep the asparagus coated in the butter. You'll be glad you did it.
Smoke the asparagus for 35-45 minutes or asparagus is tender but firm.
When the asparagus is done, remove from the hot pan so asparagus does not continue cooking.
Place remaining butter and garlic sauce in a separate container and remove the pan from the heat. Plate the asparagus and drizzle with remaining sauce.
