German Apple Pancakes should be on your bucket list if you love apples and pancakes! With a little whipped cream and some syrup they are divine!
I had a German Apple Pancake like this for the first time more then 20 years ago and it was love at first sight and taste! I always loved pancakes but this one is different.
German Apple Pancakes should be on every apple and pancake lovers bucket list! I am not kidding, they are divine!
We always use a cast iron skillet to make this recipe but it is not a must. You just need a skillet that can go into your oven.
There is just something about how the house smells while the apples and cinnamon are cooking. Just thinking about it makes me wish I had one right now!
This German Apple Pancake is fabulous for breakfast, brunch, dinner or dessert. Yes, I mentioned dinner. I know I can't be the only one that loves breakfast for dinner on occasion.
You can include pecans and raisins if you desire! They just add a little something special to this already delicious German Apple Pancake!
Ingredients in German Apple Pancake
- flour
- sugar
- salt
- eggs
- half and half cream
- vanilla
- butter
- apples
- brown sugar
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- lemon juice
- raisins
- pecans
How to make a German Apple Pancake
Preheat your oven to 500 degrees.
In a medium sized bowl combine flour, sugar, and salt. In another medium sized bowl combine eggs, cream, and vanilla. Add liquid ingredients to dry and whisk until blended. Set aside.
Heat butter in an ovenproof nonstick skillet (we always use cast iron), over medium-high heat until sizzling.
Add apples, brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon.
Stir frequently until apples are golden brown, around 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and add lemon juice, raisins and pecans, if using.
Stir until combined.
Pour batter over top of apples and place immediately into your oven.
Reduce temperature to 425 degrees.
Bake until edges are brown and puffy, around 18 minutes.
Remove skillet from oven and loosen the edges of the pancake with a rubber spatula.

- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt

- ⅔ cup half and half cream

- 3-4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into ¼ inch slices

- 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground

- ¼ cup pecans, chopped optional
