- Heavy cream: For perfectly luscious and creamy ice cream, heavy cream is a must. As it whips, air is incorporated, giving you a wonderfully fluffy result.
- Vanilla extract: The hint of vanilla perfectly complements the natural cherry flavor of the Dr. Pepper. It’s a great (and necessary) addition to this ice cream recipe.
- Sweetened condensed milk: This is a key ingredient because it sweetens and thickens the ice cream, while also preventing ice from forming.

How to Make Dr. Pepper Ice Cream
Here are the instructions on how to make homemade Dr. Pepper and ice cream combination. Before I get started, I like to have my ingredients measured and a 9x15” loaf pan ready!

Step 1: Whip the cream and vanilla. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream to a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat the mixture for about 4 minutes or until stiff peaks form. Feel free to use a hand or stand mixer!

Step 2: Add condensed milk and soda. Next, pour in the sweetened condensed milk and Dr.Pepper. Set the mixer to low speed so you won’t have a mess to clean, and mix the ingredients until they are well combined and super creamy.

Step 3: Transfer and freeze. Pour the ice cream mixture into the loaf pan. Spread it evenly and cover it with plastic wrap. Pop it into the freezer for a minimum of 5 hours or until it’s perfectly firm.

Step 4: Serve. Scoop some Dr. Pepper flavored ice cream into a bowl and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Storage directions: Store your leftover ice cream tightly covered and place it in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- Don’t overwhip the cream: When mixing the ice cream ingredients, whip the heavy cream just enough to incorporate air, ensuring a light and fluffy texture.
- Cover it tightly: Ensure that you cover the ice cream tightly with plastic wrap, allowing it to touch the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming.

Recipe FAQs
Sometimes the carbonation in soda can make it more difficult for the ice cream to become smooth and creamy when you mix it. Let the Dr. Pepper sit out to remove some of the fizz before you add it to ensure you can incorporate all of the ingredients easily.
Any shallow container or an airtight container with a lid will work. Just be sure that you can tightly cover it with plastic wrap if it doesn’t have a lid.
It’s normal for the ice cream to be hard to scoop. Allow it to sit on the counter for about 5 minutes to soften before serving.
