Homemade Dr. Pepper Ice Cream is a quick and easy cold treat that’s tasty any time of the year. If you haven’t made ice cream yourself, this is the perfect recipe to try. It requires minimal ingredients and effort to create a luscious and creamy ice cream that tastes just like Dr. Pepper. I think this recipe reminds me a lot of Dr. Pepper float ice cream, only better!

I add vanilla extract to this ice cream because it not only balances the flavors, but it also adds a hint of vanilla that complements the peppery and sweet flavor of Dr. Pepper. It’s so amazing and tastes just like the Dr. Pepper Blue Bell Ice Cream!

Why You’ll Love This Dr. Pepper Flavored Ice Cream Recipe

    • It’s only 4 ingredients: You will need just 4 simple ingredients to create your own Dr. Pepper flavored ice cream. It’s so easy!
    • Preparation is fast: This is a quick dessert that only takes a few minutes to prepare. Then, the freezer does the rest.
    • It’s inexpensive: This recipe is budget-friendly, too. You can enjoy homemade ice cream without spending a fortune!

    Ingredients

Here are the ingredients needed to make this easy no-churn ice cream recipe. It combines Dr. Pepper and ice cream to create a sweet and impressive dessert.

Ingredients for Dr. Pepper ice cream arranged on a marble surface.
    • Heavy cream: For perfectly luscious and creamy ice cream, heavy cream is a must. As it whips, air is incorporated, giving you a wonderfully fluffy result.
    • Vanilla extract: The hint of vanilla perfectly complements the natural cherry flavor of the Dr. Pepper. It’s a great (and necessary) addition to this ice cream recipe.
    • Sweetened condensed milk: This is a key ingredient because it sweetens and thickens the ice cream, while also preventing ice from forming.
    • Dr. Pepper: You need Dr. Pepper soda to make Dr. Pepper-flavored ice cream! It mixes wonderfully with the other ingredients, while adding that sweet peppery flavor you love!

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Cherry: Try making this ice cream using cherry Dr. Pepper and dried cherries for a lovely tart and fruity flavor.
    • Chocolate: Fold in chocolate chunks and swirl in your favorite chocolate fudge for a rich version.
    • Strawberries and cream: Make this ice cream using Dr. Pepper strawberries and cream flavor and fold in diced strawberries for a different experience.

How to Make Dr. Pepper Ice Cream

Here are the instructions on how to make homemade Dr. Pepper and ice cream combination. Before I get started, I like to have my ingredients measured and a 9x15” loaf pan ready!

Heavy cream and vanilla extract in a clear mixing bowl before whipping.

Step 1: Whip the cream and vanilla. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream to a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat the mixture for about 4 minutes or until stiff peaks form. Feel free to use a hand or stand mixer!

Dr. Pepper and condensed milk added to whipped cream in a clear mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add condensed milk and soda. Next, pour in the sweetened condensed milk and Dr.Pepper. Set the mixer to low speed so you won’t have a mess to clean, and mix the ingredients until they are well combined and super creamy.

Dr. Pepper ice cream mixture in a loaf pan, ready to freeze.

Step 3: Transfer and freeze. Pour the ice cream mixture into the loaf pan. Spread it evenly and cover it with plastic wrap. Pop it into the freezer for a minimum of 5 hours or until it’s perfectly firm.

Step 4: Serve. Scoop some Dr. Pepper flavored ice cream into a bowl and enjoy!

    Recipe Tips

    • Storage directions: Store your leftover ice cream tightly covered and place it in the freezer for up to 2 months.
    • Don’t overwhip the cream: When mixing the ice cream ingredients, whip the heavy cream just enough to incorporate air, ensuring a light and fluffy texture.
    • Cover it tightly: Ensure that you cover the ice cream tightly with plastic wrap, allowing it to touch the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming.

    Recipe FAQs

Why is my ice cream so hard to mix?

Sometimes the carbonation in soda can make it more difficult for the ice cream to become smooth and creamy when you mix it. Let the Dr. Pepper sit out to remove some of the fizz before you add it to ensure you can incorporate all of the ingredients easily.

What can I use if I don’t have a loaf pan?

Any shallow container or an airtight container with a lid will work. Just be sure that you can tightly cover it with plastic wrap if it doesn’t have a lid.

How can I make the ice cream easier to scoop?

It’s normal for the ice cream to be hard to scoop. Allow it to sit on the counter for about 5 minutes to soften before serving.
